1. Long COVID is real. It's disabling. And global experts just reached consensus on 10 urgent truths.
Here’s what you need to know from the new Delphi study 🧵
2. Health workers must be trained to recognize Long COVID—beyond fatigue. It can mean organ damage, immune dysfunction, and neurological injury.
Routine labs often miss this. Real diagnostics are needed.
3. There’s no single definition of Long COVID—and that’s a problem.
Without one, research, diagnosis, treatment, and patient protections all suffer. We need a unified definition.
🧵Thread: Securing Funding for the German Wastewater Monitoring Project ("AMELAG") in the 2025 Federal Budget
1/8 What is AMELAG?🧪
AMELAG stands for "Wastewater Monitoring for Epidemiological Situation Assessment." Launched on November 1, 2022, by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and partners like the Federal Environment Agency (UBA), it's a critical tool for public health surveillance.
2/8 Why Wastewater Monitoring Matters 🌊
Wastewater monitoring is indispensable for both public and individual health. It allows early detection of pathogens, enabling swift action to mitigate potential outbreaks.
The British Medical Association (BMA) and the Covid Airborne Protection Alliance have written to NHSE asking them to update their Infection Protection Control guidance to acknowledge airborne transmission of COVID, and properly protect patients and HCW.
The letter comes amidst yet another COVID surge, as hospitals worldwide report staffing and capacity strains, and as the @WHO publicly encouraged universally masking in healthcare settings.
In year 4 of the pandemic, we shouldn’t have to be fighting for basic protections like proper infection control for the most vulnerable patients. We shouldn’t need to be explaining airborne transmission to public health bodies.

Were you infected with COVID-19 in a healthcare setting? WHN is collecting stories about unsafe healthcare that led to illness, disability, and death. This form is intended for use by patients, advocates (family/friends included) and healthcare workers
The form does not currently ask for any details about where or how infection occurred; should we need more info, we will directly contact you. This information will never be shared without your permission.
For now, we are hoping to get some insight into the frequency of these infections. Down the road, we may contact you to discuss details or to ask whether you’d be interested in or willing to speak with press.
