This hadīth is reported by Sayyidunā Ḥudhayfah (رضي الله عنه) and mentioned by Imām Ibn Kathīr in his Tafsīr under verse 175 of Sūrah al-Aʿrāf:

“What I fear most for you is a man who recites the Qur’ān until its beauty is seen on him and he appears as a person of Islam…

…Then he changes, detaches from the Qur’ān, throws it behind his back, and begins attacking his neighbour with the sword, accusing him of Shirk.”
I asked:
“O Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, who is closer to Shirk? The one accusing or the one being accused?”
