Re: the need for a new/updated "Revelation" or "Apocalyptic" narrative that is "inspired" or motivated by the new ecological reality. It begins with the idea that the reason I'm suggesting this "re-opening of the canon" in order to "add some needed updates" (or "amendments")...1/
...that start with the present reality, and how we've gotten here. The "unveil" here is the "vision" of what we've done. So the "common ground" relatable stuff is going to be primarily the job of the preacher or teacher, for the specifics. 2/
The "new apocalyptic" I am talking about is that announcement of the new reality. The entire Bible is a series of announcements, followed by stories of people reacting and attempting to express their lives as people in that reality. 3/
So there's a lot of response and details to be "filled in", and yes, some of that should also become "canonical" in its importance. But the lions share of the "relatable" and "common ground" is still going to lie with the community's leadership and education. 4/
There's so much more to explain, but I wanted to start with what needs to happen first, which is to overcome the idea that the Bible or "Scriptural Revelation" is a done deal and forever sealed. I don't think that's going to happen in anywhere close to a universal way, ...5/
...even though it actually happened in the 2nd and 3rd centuries that way. But I was saying that if Christians are truly a people who say they strive to hear God, then they need to open the input channel for doing so. 6/
That also means upgrading our interpersonal /communal channels to make our listening a communal experience (collaborative listening). 7/

I just saw another list of problems of our present realities in America, and , once again, there is no mention of the Ecological hell we're continuing to build for ourselves and our children.
I posted this in reply:
1/
Worst of all, nobody's talking about the Ecological Crisis, despite our essentially having run out of time to do an achievable transition. The earlier we had begun this, the more affordable and less stressful of a change it would have been. Now we are pushing ...2/
...that time of transition further out (and looking more and more like it will never happen. "Predatory delay" is what Alex Steffen calls this, and it's becoming more "Predatory" by the day as our window of best opportunity slips further and further into implausibility. 3/

I just read a series of tweets expressing disgust at the U.S. bombing Iran while a laundry list of woes in America , all exacerbated by the outright insane assault of MAGA/GOP/Trump, but once again, like so many "Progressive" critiques, fail to ...1/
...even so much as mention the Ecological Crisis, as if it hasn't been bearing down on us for the last 30-40 years, and ever so much more apparent and accelerating in the past 5 years. This kind of continued neglect in our national consciousness is going to be ...2/
... every bit as deadly, and THEN SOME. God help us.
I started to reply with something like the above, then decided to screen shot** it so I'm not "pushing back" on someone who is merely upset (as I am) about what's happening now with the insanity ... 3/

This "Opinion" is absolutely oblivious to reality. If you look at this writer's other works, it's typical of the media now. A few things about this (a long thread) : 1/
"Guess who Americans want to run the economy? Hint: It's not Democrats. | Opinion usatoday.com/story/opinion/…
"Donald Trump's focus on the economy is why Americans elected him president."
This is an astounding thing to say; even more so that it is something that is taken seriously by anyone. Really? TRUMP's FOCUS? First of all, what is "FOCUS" with this guy? 2/
Is that even a relevant word with this completely off the rails INABILITY to stay on ANY topic at all? And EVERY TIME he's asked about ANYTHING, he derails into "sharks and electrocution" and "eating dogs and cats" and "AI robot Biden clones". Seriously? 3/

Another quote from my Wendell Berry reading that I just have to relay to you:
"Despite its protests to the contrary, modern Christianity has become willy-nilly the religion of the state and the economic status quo. Because it has been so exclusively dedicated to ... 1/
...incanting anemic souls into Heaven, it has been made the tool of much earthly villainy. It has, for the most part, stood silently by while a predatory economy has ravaged the world, destroyed its natural beauty and health, divided and plundered its human communities and ...2/
... households. It has flown the flag and chanted the slogans of empire. It has assumed with the economists that "economic forces" automatically work for good and has assumed with the industrialists and militarists that technology determines history. 3/

A Facebook post (see ) from a person I follow asks this question:
"THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY desperately needs a new leader to emerge, a combination of MLK jr., Angela Merkel, Fred Rogers and Fareed Zakaria. Not asking for much. Who’s in your combo?"buff.ly/I30Y71s
So I made my contribution:
An Ecological preacher/teacher is needed here, too. MLK was likely to have become one had he lived longer (but had already been calling more attention to the ecological trends than most of his contemporaries). 2/
But even he was "Pre-Crisis" in terms of a public awareness that was , henceforth, undeniable and inescapable after James Hansen made sure he told everyone in a Congressional hearing what our government had been neglecting to tell us about the coming Climate Crisis. 3/

"... there are an enormous number of people—and I am one of them—whose native religion, for better or worse, is Christianity. We were born to it; we began to learn about it before we became conscious; it is, whatever we think of it, an intimate belonging of our being; ... 1/
...it informs our consciousness, our language, and our dreams. We can turn away from it or against it, but that will only bind us tightly to a reduced version of it. A better possibility is that this, our native religion, should survive and renew itself so that it may become...2/
... as largely and truly instructive as we need it to be. On such a survival and renewal of the Christian religion may depend the survival of the Creation that is its subject." —Wendell Berry, "What I Stand On: The Collected Essays on Wendell Berry" , Essays 1993-2017, ...3/
