Dr. Shannon Stott and her team have created a new way to detect COVID-19 using a special lab tool called a "microfluidic chip." This chip is coated with ACE-2 — the same protein the virus uses to enter our cells — so it acts like bait to catch the virus if it's still in the blood
In regular blood tests during an active COVID infection, they couldn't find the virus.
But when they used this new chip, they were able to catch around 30,000 virus particles from the same blood samples. That means the virus was there, just hidden from standard tests.
Now, the organization PolyBio is helping apply this technology to Long COVID.
They're using it to check if there are still tiny bits of virus hiding in the blood of those with Long COVID.
If they find the virus, this tool could help in future research and clinical trials by showing where the virus is lingering in the body and guiding treatment.

We're in a regressive time of health supremacy, ableism and eugenics; People who got lucky and aren't predisposed to any significant health conditions (yet barely do anything to maintain their health) think everyone who does have a health condition has only themselves to blame.
Saying "I take a vitamin C pill in the morning and I rarely get sick" to someone who is immunocompromised or has an invisible illness is a slap in the face, and an outward confession of their absolutely biased worldview, moralization of health, and disregard for other's lives.
This is especially so in COVID; "I had COVID 5 times and it was just a cold" steps over the bodies of millions who died and countless others who have been and continue to be disabled by this virus.
It puts a spotlight on how they only see the world as "for them."
Did you know your body can become "depressed" if you don't eat enough bread with every meal? Real advice from a person cosplaying as a rheumatologist today.
They even gave me a "balanced meals" printout guide that looked like something from the 4th grade. I'm still fuming.
My entire visit was a foregone conclusion. Something in my chart (or me in a mask) put them into the most condescending mode I've witnessed in a human.
We had a nice one-way conversation about eating good and sleeping and avoiding multi-tasking.
I was there for muscle injuries.
Not a single thing was addressed in any way shape or form. For the first 5 min I thought they were completely joking before I realized they were just a funnel for spouting mind-over-matter nonsense.
No tests, no questions, just a stream of bullshit.
🧵 1/ For me, Joe Biden's legacy will forever be his capitulation to corporate interests on COVID-19, and the dismantling of protections and precautions against it.
His admin did everything in its power to feign normalcy, which cost hundreds of thousands of lives (and counting)
2/ Operation Warp Speed began under Trump in May of 2020. Despite right-wing rhetoric, we got vaccines in Dec 2020.
When Biden took office in late Jan, most people had gotten their second shot.
But the first thing they did was take credit for it to further align C-19 with Trump
3/ That isn't to credit Trump, who worsened the pandemic at every turn, but the strategy to paint COVID-19 a "Republican problem" was well underway.
By January 2021 we had hit 400k deaths in the United States, which was still headline news at the time (when people still cared.)
While everyone else are attempting to shuffle COVID under the rug, medical researchers are still out there working to define the scope of its effects and adverse outcomes.
Imagine if climate change could be solved by simply wearing a sweater for 3 months for ONE single winter.
Well that's actually how simple it could be to bring COVID down to manageable levels. If 70% wore proper masks in public spaces, COVID could be wiped out, likely in months.
"COVID-19 Pandemic Could Be Stopped if at Least 70% of the Public Wore Face Masks Consistently"
