TIL that neurosurgeons are hardcore bioengineers!!
This kid had a tumor in a sensitive part of their brain which made surgical removal very risky
The surgeons did it anyway after litterally forcing the brain to rearrange its neurons 💀

An eloquent area is a region of the cortex where damage can lead to significant deficits in language, motor function, etc. So surgical removal of lesions from these areas is not advised
This patient was unlucky and had a tumor exactly here.

However, this kid's doctors bargained with nature and won😂
They opened up his head, placed in electrodes and used them to inhibit the language areas (which were close to the lesion).
This forced the use of accessory language areas in another part of the brain

This electrocution continued for SIX DAYS till the patient could talk coherently even with the language inhibition electrodes on at full power (this was a sign full plasticity had occured)
The tumor was then removed & the patient was reported healthy 1 year post op
