This is a beautiful story which depicts the importance of bhakti. Once in a palace Srimad Bhagavatam was being recited.
The story was Gajendra Moksham that day. Pandit was explaining how crocodile caught hold of elephant & how elephant was crying to help.
With pure faith when elephant called for Sriman Narayana's help, within a second Mahavishnu came there in Garuda Vahana.
Suddenly King stopped the Pandit & raised a doubt. Mahavishnu came to elephant's help from Vaikunta, so how far is Vaikuntam? Pandit was confused by the question. Then a man who was hearing all these came forward & told. May I answer this question?
King gave permission & the man started to talk. O' King, Vaikuntha is situated so far that even the loudest prayer of the crooked cannot be heard, Vaikunta is so near to those who really have Ultimate faith in him that Bhagwan cannot see his devotee in pain.
Distance between us & Bhagwan lies according to our deeds, our faith. Gajendra's call was that type of ultimate surrender that led Mahavishnu to reach him immediately.
Also reciting Gajendra Moksham daily can remove all our problems. Evening while you light deepam chant this slokam which is in Srimad Narayaneeyam too.
