66 Books – One Theme
When we read and study the bible, it can seem overwhelming with all of the diverse story lines and characters. The countless lessons and examples can appear to be an elaborate puzzle that is hard for the reader to decipher. But in reality, all of the books and stories, both Old-
and New-Testament, can be boiled down to one simple theme. It is a book about love and how it blesses everything (all of creation). From Genesis to Revelation the bible tells us to love God, giving to Him our everything (our lives, our time, our possessions and passions, desires,
and yes – even our problems, worries and personal failures). When we do all of these, we acknowledge that He is real (more so than us) and then we seek and obey Him. And He leads us to complete the second part of the central theme – to love and esteem others around us more than
we do our own selves. He tells us to live our lives to love others more than ourselves and show them what God says about them (also not worrying about what others say about us – for God is the One who affirms us and our value). This is the central theme throughout the entire
bible – the blessings that flow when we love like that and how the train de-rails when we do not.

An ultimate love story, the bible is not a weapon that is used to reverse or distort ANY of the above. The enemy will tempt us (using our natural selfish tendencies) to use the
scriptures to turn the focus of what they say to be self-centered and self-serving for us. He knows all of the scriptures as well and is an expert and cherry-picking isolated verses and themes (taking them out of context with the overall story) to make them serve our (his)
selfish desires as if God is holding out on us or is not sufficient for our needs. The picture of Jesus’ temptation after His 40-day fast in the wilderness is a great illustration of this method. It is an illustration of what it looks like to use the bible as a weapon to win an
argument or manipulate others for selfish and evil gain. It reverses the true theme illustrated above, is not God’s truth, God’s way, or God’s love.

Here is one last powerful point – God even applies that simple theme of love to Himself, being a living example of what He calls
us to do. 66 books is a lot to remember, for sure. But the message is so very simple. Love God, obey Him, and love others.

34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again. 35 One of them, an expert in
religious law, tried to trap him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”

37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest
commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” - Matthew 22:34-40

Separation Anxiety
The enemy was once a beautiful angel who was kicked out of heaven because he exalted himself. Furious as he was thrown down to this world, he came with one goal – to steal, kill and to destroy. He is very good at bringing separation and strife primarily between God and His people
(vertical relationship) and also between God’s people themselves (horizontal relationships). His only weapon in achieving his goal is through lies, deception and then accusation. We see the first example of this in Genesis 3 when he used this weapon to initiate sin and separation

Even So Come – But Who?
When we look around today at all of the strife and chaos, it is common for us to pray “Even so come LORD Jesus, come quickly.” I myself have prayed those words in recent weeks. This morning, it was this theme that the Lord placed on my heart as He woke me. There is great irony in
this prayer. The book of Revelation paints a picture of this irony.

In the very last chapter, the very last words have Jesus making this statement about coming. Starting in Revelation 22:7, Jesus says quite abruptly and clearly “Look, I am coming soon!” Then He closes out His

Mob Mentality – Commonality and Danger
When the Lord woke me up this morning, He had this theme on my heart of mob mentality and the way of the world. After I thought about it for a bit, it occurred to me that this is a continuation of yesterday about our focus. Mob mentality is when we give over ourselves to be
motivated by the things that are going on around us. As humans with natural feelings and psychological needs, we all want to be accepted by others. We have a deep-seeded need to fit in and to conform. This is built into our DNA.

The problem is that we give this motivation over

Our Focus is EVERYTHING
This week in my life I was reminded by the Lord of a valuable lesson about our focus and where we place it. It truly shapes our outlook on life and sets the tone of what we can do. As believers in Jesus, when we keep our eyes on Him and follow His lead, there are no limits to
what we can do no matter what situations come our way. Difficult situations, pain, suffering and worry are all tools that the enemy uses against us (and he is very good at it) to take our focus off of our LORD and what we know He has said. When (not if) this happens, any one of

Jehovah Jireh - The LORD Our Provider
The Lord promises to provide ALL of our needs and that all we have to do is just trust (believe in) Him. That sounds very simple but it is also very deep. He provides all of our needs in ways that we don’t even understand. He provides for needs that we didn’t even realize we
needed and He also provides them right on time (He knew we would need them even before we did). All we have to do is trust and truly believe and He takes care of the rest in a very deep way. Here is a famous example:

13 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in

This is How We Fight Our Battles
In these days of unprecedented events (both good blessings and extreme conflicts and rebellion), there is a continuous strong temptation to lash out with words of correction or retaliation. I have struggled with that intently over this past weekend watching local, national and
global events and wanting to call out people by name making a case and an argument for their rebellion, hypocrisy, lies and manipulation. Any time spent watching the news media immediately fills anyone with these desires. I have found that it doesn’t really matter which news
