How is this not a scandal?

The president of Mexico is openly trying to help her fellow countrymen in America avoid our new remittance tax.

Ironically, this is precisely WHY we need to crack down on remittances.

Mexico depends on U.S. remittances. That's why their president is trying to give Mexican nationals in the U.S. guidance on how to maximize the flow of U.S. dollars into Mexico.

Their economy is inextricably tied to this cash flow. Without our economy, theirs would crumble. (2/7)

This isn't the first time Claudia Sheinbaum has encouraged Mexican nationals in the U.S. to activate—as a political bloc—to lobby for Mexican interests.

It wasn't just Sheinbaum, either. When I introduced the REMIT Act to boost the remittance tax, the president of the Mexican Senate weighed in himself.

It only makes sense: As of 2023, Mexico was raking in more than $63 billion a year in remittances. (4/7)

This is the problem with mass migration: It's a "ratchet effect"—the more it happens, the harder it is to control.

Foreign governments now have a vested economic interest in continuing (and even accelerating) immigration into the U.S. (5/7)

That's why—despite being dependent on us for so much—Mexico has refused to stem the flow of immigrants into our country. They could stop it, but they have a deep financial incentive in continuing to turn a blind eye.

My REMIT Act would end those financial incentives. (6/7)

The solution to this crisis is simple:

• Pass the REMIT Act
• Boost the remittance tax rate
• End the financial incentives for mass migration

Until then, Mexico isn't going to help us send their people home. (7/7)
