We need to specify some of the connections between the key players of this week's Anglican drama. These connections haven't been a priority when processing through the deluge of (mis)information, but are important to keep in mind. I'm angry and I'm sad. 1/x
Also it's way past my bedtime so I have run out of ability to continue to suss out relevant details and the children will remind me of that much too soon :) But hold on to your britches because what a wen we weave. 2/x
Bishop David Bryan: When AMiA was formed in 2001, Chuck Murphy and John Rodgers were consecrated missionary Bishops by the Province of Rwanda (PEAR) in AMiA, David Bryan became rector of All Saint's to succeed Chuck Murphy 3/x
It appears that Bryan led the All Saints to follow Chuck Murphy into AMiA in 2004 On staff with Bryan was another futures AMiA bishop, Thad Barnum. When Bryan left to plant a separate AMiA church, he was succeeded by an additional future AMiA bishop, Terrell Glenn. 4/x
Now, remember Ruch was conditionally ordained by Chuck Murphey in the early years of AMiA. See

5/x
Bryan and Ruch were around at the beginning of AMiA. Then in 2011 AMiA had some issues (to put it delicately). While about 1/3 of the churches remained in AMiA, the majority of the churches chose to retain their dual-citizenship within Rwanada and ACNA.
6/x
Thus AMiA became a minor player in the ACNA ecosystem and PEARUSA was formed to retain the churches who wished to remain under full authority of Rwanda (PEAR) and also in full communion with ACNA. 7/x
So in 2012/2013 there was a glut of new bishops from this mess. Steve Breedlove, David Bryan, and Ken Ross were all consecrated as Bishops of PEARUSA by ACNA and Rwandan Bishops. At the same time, Stewart Ruch became bishop of the nascent Diocese of the Upper Midwest in 2013. 8/x
Bishop Todd Hunter's C4SO also transferred from AMiA to ACNA (but that too is complicated). So, out of the AMiA crisis, Bishops Ruch, Bryan, Breedlove, and Ross were all ordained into the ACNA within 1-ish years of each other. Perhaps there is some affinity within the group. 9/x
However it must be pointed out that Bps. Ken Ross and former AMiA Bishop Todd Hunter signed the Bishop's presentment against Stewart Ruch. 10/x
David Bryan and Stewart Ruch were both in AMiA together since at least 2004, and possibly knew each other before that due to the close ties between Bishop Chuck Murphy, Thad Barnum, AMiA, and Stewart Ruch's Church of the Resurrection in Wheaton/Glen Ellyn. IL. 11/x
Then in 2016 the Rwandan Anglican Church decided that it was time for PEARUSA come fully under the canonical authority of the ACNA. At that point Ken Ross became Bishop of the Diocese of the Rocky Mountains and Steve Breedlove became Bishop of the Christ our Hope Diocese. 12/x
The majority of the remaining churches were in the Carolinas and joined existing ACNA Dioceses. Bp. David Bryan became suffragan Bishop under Steve Wood in 2016, and eventually was also appointed as an assisting bishop in the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina (2024). 13/x
In summary, David Bryan and Stewart Ruch have been members of AMiA since the early 2000s. & Dan has been suffragan Bishop to current Archbishop Steve Wood since 2016. 14/x
Now, ACNA Executive Director/COO Deborah Tepley became an Anglican about 15 years ago at Church of the Advent in DC under Rev. Tommy Hinson. At that time, Advent would have been AMiA or at the very beginnings of PEARUSA (allowing for some grace in timeframes). 15/x
Church of the Advent is part of Christ our Hope Diocese and was a church plant from Dan Claire's Church of the Resurrection (see ). Deborah served as Executive Director as Church of the Advent for several years. 16/xacnatoo.org/christ-our-hope
Deborah Tepley was closely involved with "Always Forward", the ACNA's church planting movement "for a number of years". In Feb 2025 she appeared on the Always Forward Podcast with Dan Alger. She spoke in at least one Always Forward Canons for Church Planting Gatherings. 17/x
Always Forward was led by Christ our Hope Canon Dan Alger, until he was called to become dean of the cathedral at Redeeemer Anglican Church in Christ our Hope. 18/x
Recently Dan Alger was suspended from pastoral ministry for at least one year for abuses of power (see ). Dan Alger is dean because Alan Hawkins became the diocesan bishop of Christ our Hope after Steve Breedlove retired. 19/xacnatoo.org/acnatoo-news/d…
Previously, Alan Hawkins was also the COO of the ACNA and is highly culpable in the province's mishandling of the whole mess in the Midwest. Dan Alger and Alan Hawkins became friends at an AMiA conference as early as 2002 ( ) 20/x
(And so now, Molly Ruch, the sister-in-law of the currently-under-trial Bp. Stewart Ruch, is leading the ACNA's Always Forward Movement.) 21/x
So we have Bp. David Bryan, president of the court of trial, who has been suffragan for the Archbishop for almost 10 year. Bp. Bryan is also OG AMiA with Bp. Stewart Ruch. 22/x
Deborah Tepley comes from a former AMiA diocese and has been exposed to or one step away from such *stellar* leadership examples such as Alan Hawkins, Dan Alger, Dan Claire, and Alan Hawkins. All of whom were part of AMiA with Ruch and David Bryan from at least 2004. 23/x
Lord have mercy. 24/end @MBurtwrites @hlgriffin @LuhmannAudrey @askWallace @monkofjustice @vagentleman2 @abbinye @ArlieColes @PostCnsumrChris
