Israeli settler Yinon Levi shot and killed Palestinian teacher and activist Awdah Hathaleen in the West Bank village of Umm al-Khair on July 28. Levi remains free. Four of Awdah’s family members are jailed. This is not justice—this is state-backed murder. 🧵
Awdah wasn’t just a local organizer—he co-directed the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, exposing forced displacement in Masafer Yatta. His camera became a weapon against land theft. That made him a target.
Yinon Levi, the settler who killed Awdah, has a history of violent attacks against Palestinians. He’s under UK and EU sanctions—and was previously sanctioned by the US, until the Trump admin lifted them in January 2025.
Witnesses say Levi entered the village with a bulldozer and armed settlers. Awdah stood outside the community center filming the destruction. He was shot in the chest while standing apart from the crowd. He posed no threat.
There’s footage showing Levi raising his pistol and firing toward villagers. Yet Israeli authorities only “questioned” him and let him go. Meanwhile, Awdah’s relatives are still behind bars.
Awdah survived displacement, occupation, deportation—and made global audiences care through art. He was silenced not by chance, but by design. And still, his story continues to echo.
If a man can be murdered on his own land while filming for peace—and the killer walks free—we must call this what it is: apartheid. And every moment of silence is complicity. #JusticeForAwdah #FreePalestine
