🧵 Some takeaways after hearing Derek Falvey’s comments post #MNTwins trade deadline:
They did not initiate the Carlos Correa trade discussions. That all came from Houston’s side and Correa’s willingness to return. 🧵
He felt he “owed” Byron Buxton a conversation about today’s moves. He was a professional about the whole process and Falvey was on the record that he never considered trading or heard a request from Buxton to be traded.
They felt the returns for Varland and Jax were deals they couldn’t say no to. He believes Taj Bradley (24) is one of the best young starting pitchers in the game.
The acquisitions of players like Bradley and Outman help the Twins immediately as opposed to just stashing all the returns as prospect/lottery tickets.
He and Jeremy Zoll are flying to Cleveland tomorrow to meet with staff and players in person to discuss the direction of the team.
We’ll know more about roster moves soon but it certainly sounds like guys we’ve seen before (Julien, Martin, maybe Miranda?) we’ll get a crack at sticking around. Brooks Lee should also see a bulk of time at shortstop. 🧵
