I hear this almost every day from people on the right.
They claim that those of us advising of the risks of abortion bans are fear mongering, despite the fact that many women have been arrested for pregnancy loss.
🧵
Is there a law stating that a miscarriage is illegal? Of course not.
There are many laws that state abortion is illegal, and despite what the forced birth crowd say, it’s nearly impossible to tell the difference between a miscarriage and an abortion.
So when someone loses a pregnancy, it’s open to interpretation.
Healthcare workers might report you if you don’t seem sufficiently distraught.
A family member might report you if they think you didn’t want the baby.
Law enforcement will look through your socials, texts etc
We’re basically criminalizing pregnancy.
If you lose your fetus and you didn’t behave the way they “expect” a happy pregnant person to behave, you might face arrest and prosecution.
But if they can’t prove you had an abortion, what do they charge you with??
Abuse of a corpse.
Every single time.
They’re charging women for HOW they dispose of the fetal remains because they legally can’t charge them for a miscarriage.
There’s absolutely no legal guidance on the “right” way to dispose of a miscarriage.
Whether you flush it, bury it or throw it in the garbage…
You risk arrest.
We’ve now seen women arrested for all three; and it’s horrifying.
Are we really comfortable sending a message that women must self report their miscarriages to the police??
Are we really ok encouraging friends, family and healthcare workers to report pregnant people who don’t seem “happy enough” about their pregnancy?
Or reporting those who’ve had a miscarriage for not being “sad enough”?
It’s very clearly not about life, it’s about control.
Any pregnancy loss is traumatic. There’s no “right way” to react.
Just because someone reacts differently than you would doesn’t mean they didn’t want the baby or that they’ve done something wrong.
We must fight these ridiculous charges.
This is a country that forced a brain dead black woman to be kept alive on machines because she was 9 weeks pregnant.
Adriana Smith didn’t get a say. Yet that wasn’t considered abuse of a corpse.
If that isn’t abuse of a corpse, why on earth are we charging women for how they dispose of their miscarriages?
Fetal remains aren’t a corpse, they’re the property of the mother. It should be up to her what she does with it.
These charges are a blatant attempt to scare women from exercising their reproductive freedom.
More women will die, and many will be incarcerated.
It’s not about life. It’s never been about life. It’ll never be about life.
Keep speaking out until things change /end

Rodney Taylor, is a disabled man who was detained by ICE back in January & thrown in a Georgia detention facility.
He’s still there.
A double amputee, Taylor was taken into custody just two days before he was schedule to receive new prosthetic legs. 🧵
What’s followed is a series of abuse and mistreatment, including being unable to charge his legs, unable to use the wheelchair because of injuries to his hand and denial of access to his new legs.
Now the Georgia detention centre has put him in solitary confinement. Why?
Because his cell flooded with water and he refused to enter as it would damage his prosthetics.
He spent 3 days in “restrictive housing” without access to water.
Many Americans aren’t familiar with Canadian serial killer & rapist Paul Bernardo, nicknamed the “schoolgirl killer”
He & wife Karla Homolka raped and killed women together before being arrested in 1993.
The prosecution made a deal with Homolka, the “deal with the devil” 🧵
He was charged and tried for the rapes and murders of Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy, though there were many more victims, including his wife’s own sister Tammy Homolka.
The prosecution made a deal with Karla to testify against him, giving her a reduced sentence.
At the time she claimed she was also a victim and had been forced to participate in the crimes.
After the deal was done, video evidence surfaced which clearly showed she was a far more active participant than she had led police & prosecutors to believe.
