Is Germany Imposing an Arms Embargo on Israel?

The BDS movement calls for escalating pressure on the German establishment to end its shameless complicity in Israel’s war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

Germany, one of Israel’s key partners in its genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, announced on Friday, 8 August, it will until further notice, “approve no exports of military equipment that could be used in the Gaza Strip.”

But Germany is lying yet again. On the exact same day, the parent company of German submarine manufacturer TKMS said at its AGM that Germany had just issued a license for exporting a submarine to Israel.Image
In a statement, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz cited Israel’s recent "even tougher military action” as the reason for suspending arms exports. As if 22 months of genocide, siege and starvation were not enough. He made no mention of suspending the current export licenses Germany has issued to Israel.

Germany is Israel’s second largest military supplier. Since the beginning of Israel’s genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in October 2023, Germany has increased its military exports to Israel to over €485 million.

German political, academic, cultural and economic leaders have fervently justified Israel’s genocide, and repressed those that call to end impunity and complicity.Image
In September 2024, Germany claimed to have “stopped approving war-weapons exports to Israel.” This turned out to be yet another German lie.

Germany simply takes Israel’s word that German military materiel will not be used on Palestinian bodies, ignoring the by now universally known fact that Israel’s entire establishment lies compulsively.Image

Even if a ceasefire takes hold, the genocide, the famine, the repercussions of the annihilation of Gaza will not end. Israel and the US must be compelled to enact it, and they and other culprits must be held accountable for the genocide.

People power stops Italy’s energy giant and genocide-profiteer Eni from exporting oil to Israel! Image
Yesterday morning, the “No Harbour for Genocide” campaign uncovered that Italian fuel, likely jet fuel, was to be loaded on the vessel Seasalvia (IMO: 9629550) at the port of Taranto, Italy, at 21:30 the same day, in order to be shipped to Israel.

Hours later, dockworkers, trade unions USB and COBAS, as well as Palestine solidarity activists in Taranto were at the port to block it.Image
This continues the historic mobilization across Italy, which in a powerful strike for Palestine on Monday under the slogan #BlocchiamoTutto (Shut it Down) have brought public transport, train stations, ports and highways to a standstill.

Already by 6pm, Eni had sent an official communication that the Seasalvia would not be entering the port.
