Secrets of Pralaya — How the Universe will End as per Sanātana Dharma 😱
Every beginning has an end.
In Hinduism, creation and dissolution are eternal cycles. Worlds arise, flourish… and collapse into nothingness.
👉 But how exactly will this universe end?
A Thread 🧵
🔹 Vishnu Purana:
"Creation arises from the Unmanifest. After a long time, it dissolves back into that same Unmanifest, like bubbles in water."
👉 The Universe is not permanent. It’s a cosmic breath of Brahman.
📌 Sanātana Dharma speaks of 4 kinds of Pralaya (cosmic dissolution):
👉 Naimittika (Occasional) – At the end of each day of Brahma.
👉 Prakritika (Natural) – At the end of Brahma’s life.
👉 Atyantika (Liberational) – When the soul transcends rebirth.
👉 Nitya (Constant) – The everyday cycle of birth & death.
📌 Naimittika Pralaya
At the end of Brahma’s day (4.32 billion years), the three worlds (Bhur, Bhuvah, Svah) are destroyed.
Fire from Sesha Naga, storms, and cosmic floods engulf existence.
👉 When Brahma awakens, creation resumes.
📌 Prakritika Pralaya
The most terrifying one.
At the end of Brahma’s lifespan (311 trillion years), the entire cosmos dissolves.
👉 Earth, planets, galaxies, devas, asuras, even time itself → all merge back into Maha-Prakriti (Primordial Nature).
🔹 The Shiva Purana says:
"When dissolution comes, Agni (cosmic fire) consumes all. The oceans dry, stars fall, winds rage, and all that is seen perishes. Only the Eternal Shiva remains."
📌 Atyantika Pralaya
This is the personal end of the universe for an individual.
When one attains Moksha, the cycle of rebirth ends.
👉 For the liberated soul, Samsara itself is dissolved. No more bondage. No more universe.
📌 Nitya Pralaya
The daily cycle of creation & destruction.
Every sunrise is creation.
Every nightfall is dissolution.
Every breath in → creation.
Every breath out → dissolution.
👉 This is a reminder that... Pralaya isn’t just cosmic, it’s happening every moment.
📌 But how will our Universe end?
The Puranas describe a terrifying vision:
— 7 Suns will rise, scorching the earth.
— Oceans will boil away.
— Storms & quakes will shatter worlds.
— Stars will collapse into darkness.
(Bhagavata Purana)
After fire consumes everything, deluge follows.
Waters rise and cover all three worlds.
Brahma, the creator, goes into sleep.
👉 Everything returns to the state of undifferentiated chaos... the womb of Maha-Shakti.
👉 Then comes silence.
Time itself dissolves.
No days, no nights, no motion, no space.
Only the infinite stillness of Brahman remains. The same state before creation ever began.
But, Pralaya is not the end.
It is just a pause.
After dissolution comes new creation.
After silence comes sound... Aum.
After death comes rebirth.
👉 The cycle is eternal.
