It’s too bad that Harris and her campaign didn’t try even once to satiate or appeal to Palestinian-Americans and their allies
The Uncommitted Movement wasn’t a wrecker attempt to create chaos in the party. It was a serious venture by *Democratic Party operatives* who were trying to throw a Hail Mary to get the Dems to realize how much sympathy they had lost. The Dem Party didn’t care one bit
I have heard several stories from Uncommitted organizers about how they were laughed at by their Arab-American centrist friends and colleagues for even trying to get them to vote for the Dems after they oversaw a genocide. The gall to castigate them is beyond repute
Uncommitted asked the Harris campaign, as their main request, to allow a Palestinian *Dem state senator who endorsed Harris* to speak at the convention, and Harris’ ppl refused. They asked for a ceasefire plank, they got the Biden status quo. The Harris ppl reaped what they sowed
Maybe Trump wouldn’t have done so well with Arab American communities if the Dems had tried even once to appeal to their interests, as if they were an actual voting bloc worth considering. They did it to Polish Americans, why not Palestinians?

My advice to young humanities students:

1. Don’t be afraid to skip around the chapters in an academic history book non-linearly. As long as it’s not narrative, it’s fine as long as you read everything
2. Don’t be afraid to use Wikipedia. Its footnotes and sources are a goldmine
3. Don’t silo yourself into only studying in a narrow field. The humanities work in tandem, and making a hierarchy of them in importance to yourself is facile.
4. But on that same point, as Jameson always said, always historicize.
5. Don’t reject STEM outright. Einstein played the violin. Newton was an MP. Oppenheimer read modernist poetry. Maths aren’t your enemy, pomposity & ignorance is
6. Read old magazines & newspapers. They contain nuggets of info as voluminous as there are stars in the sky

The point of Picasso’s Cubist period was to explore the different ways we perceive time and space via the canvas. He painted this at 16. His experimentation was a conscious choice Image
The point of art is not simply to express beauty, but also to express the breadth of the human experience in all its different avenues
Picasso himself said it best: Image

I really don’t think what these men want are “positive masculinity”. Hasan Piker flexing while explaining neoliberalism wouldn’t lead them to radicalization.

What these men want are vengeance against a society where they feel they are losing their patriarchal privilege
They don’t like Trump or Andrew Tate in spite of their sexual predation and misogyny. They like Trump and Andrew Tate *because* of it
You listen to these men talk, it isn’t Trump’s “folksiness” or his tariffs or even his machismo that made them vote for the guy. It was how titillating it was to support someone they were told it was wrong to support

Borders, as we know them today, being a modern invention is actually the consensus among academic historians. Before the advent of Westphalian sovereignty in the 1640s, the definitions of polities were amorphous; they were all one bretheren of Christendom (1/3)
In the Roman Empire, for example, Emperor Caracalla famously granted citizenship rights to *every non-slave inhabitant of the empire*. Additionally, the Roman boundaries, the Limes, were not very fortified and the purpose of walls was to stop traders from evading taxation Image
Recent studies and archeological discoveries have found that despite the writings of the horrors of Barbarians thrashing at the gate, peoples living near the Limes of Rome actually were very cross-cultural and cross-lingual. Again, this was an *empire*, not a modern style state

actually insane that for 2 years conservative media has straight-facedly lied about a massive “invasion” of illegal immigrants and they’ve now been fully rewarded by having that lie become the mainstream narrative
for one, there’s no truth to the claim that the constitution describes the current border situation as an “invasion”. using a literal originalist interpretation, invasion can only be declared in an operation of war Image
The “security crisis” at the border is a bald lie. there have been zero murders in the US by foreign terrorists who got here through the southern border illegally. secondly, 0.02% of migrants arrested by border patrol have fentanyl to begin with. fentanyl is a domestic issue
