Comments to the public have been opened. The first item is a proposed Business Planned Development and Lake Michigan and Chicago Lakefront Protection Ordinance application submitted by Aquinnah Investment Trust.
The applicants are proposing to rezone the site from B3-5 (Community Shopping District) to a Business Planned Development.
They also propose to construct a 26-story, 303’-8’ hotel consisting of 250 hotel rooms and accessory uses in retail, office, hotel support uses, and parking spaces.
Here are photos of the site plans:
Continued floor plan images for the hotel:
Total estimated cost of the project is $100 million. The hotel is set to open a set of temporary and permanent jobs for residents in the area.
Commissioners are posing questions for the proposal. There is excitement to see Woodlawn activated and bringing a new vibrancy to the community.
Community members are speaking about whether or not why they are for or against the building of the hotel. Two have been for, and one is undecided.
