HorizonOS v81 PTC is now available, and it includes Meta’s new Loft home environment! I tested it on Quest 2 and recorded some footage to show how it looks in VR :)
There’s plenty to go over in this update, I'll try to break it down in a thread 🧵 (ty @Lunayian for helping!)
- All previous home environments have been replaced by the "Loft" environment
- You can move around your virtual home with slide controls, similar to Horizon Worlds
- The Loft includes an Instagram “frames” window that displays content like a screensaver on the wall
- Windows can now be moved closer or further by grabbing them and moving the thumbstick up or down
- Windows are environment-aware and will align themselves alongside walls
- The background of Loft can be changed with four options: Horizon Central, Midnight, Valley, and Oceanium
- Navigator can now be toggled on or off
- There’s a new application boot animation, a more polished version of the old one
- A new animation plays specifically when teleporting to different worlds inside Horizon Worlds
- You can now detach applications from the dock when you're within immersive experiences.
- The double-tap gesture to quickly switch to hand tracking has been disabled/removed(?)
Finally, for what seems to be the first time ever, Meta also included release notes for a PTC build. They reference upcoming features like the new Horizon Central, which hasn’t been released yet: meta.com/help/quest/172…
