For many years, nations insisted that 0° longitude should pass through their country. So where has 0° latitude and 0° longitude ended up?
[THREAD]
1/ What lies at 0°N, 0°E on Earth? This is the exact point where the Equator and the Prime Meridian intersect. On a map, it looks like a natural “origin” for global coordinates. But the reality of what sits at this location is surprising and a little strange.
You might picture land or some historic monument, but 0,0 is actually in the Gulf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean. It sits about 600 km off the coast of West Africa, near countries like Ghana, Gabon, and São Tomé and Príncipe. There is no land there at all.
At 0,0 you will not find a city, island, or landmark. The point is open ocean. Nothing visible marks the spot. Yet, because of its importance in mapping and navigation, this strange coordinate plays a big role in global data systems and digital mapping tools.
GPS and mapping software often use 0,0 as a default when location data is missing or corrupted. This means lost devices, faulty apps, or errors in datasets often end up assigned to this spot, making it a “dumping ground” for all sorts of digital information.
Because of this odd use, geographers gave the spot a name: “Null Island.” Despite its name, there is no island. It is a cartographic inside joke, a way of labeling a coordinate that often shows up when data is wrong or incomplete. But people use it all the time.
While there is no island, there is a real object at 0,0. A weather buoy floats there to collect data for climate and ocean monitoring. That buoy is the only physical marker of the place. For all practical purposes, Null Island is one buoy and endless ocean.
So, what is at coordinate 0,0 on Earth? Not an island, not a city, not a monument. It’s an invisible point in the Gulf of Guinea used by GPS and cartographers as a placeholder. Next time you see 0,0 on a map, know it’s a digital myth with a tiny buoy keeping watch.

🚨: The Universe is already in its sixth and final era
From cosmic inflation to a primordial particle soup to the expanding, cooling aftermath, the Universe went through many important stages in our cosmic history.
About 6 billion years ago, however, a new form of energy began to dominate the Universe’s expansion: dark energy, which now determines our cosmic fate.
🚨: Physicists say there’s a mirror universe where time runs in reverse
What if the Big Bang wasn’t the beginning of everything – but the middle?
Physicist Neil Turok, former director of the Perimeter Institute and now Chair at the University of Edinburgh, has proposed a bold new theory with his colleague Latham Boyle: the universe may have a mirror twin – one that existed before the Big Bang, where time runs backward and matter is made of antimatter.
This isn’t just speculation. Their idea is rooted in a well-known principle called CPT symmetry – the notion that the laws of physics remain unchanged if you flip charge, space, and time. While our universe appears to violate this symmetry, Turok and Boyle suggest that a mirror universe on the other side of the Big Bang would restore it. In this view, the Big Bang isn’t the start of time, but a dividing line between two time-reflected realities.
NEWS🚨: A signal from the edge of time has reached Earth — traveling for more than 11 billion years before arriving.
In a research paper authored by Manisha Caleb from the University of Sydney, the team report upon the discovery of FRB 20240304B which lies at a redshift of 2.148 +/- 0.001, corresponding to just 3 billion years after the Big Bang.
The burst, designated FRB 20240304B, was first detected on March 4, 2024, by South Africa's MeerKAT radio telescope array. What makes this discovery extraordinary is its incredible distance, at a whopping redshift of z = 2.148±0.001, or about 3 billion years after the Big Bang.
🚨: Quantum entanglement links particles instantly, even across galaxies, defying distance, light speed, and our understanding of reality!
Entanglement defies everyday intuition. Classical physics tells us signals need time to travel, yet entangled particles appear connected beyond space. They behave as one system, no matter the separation. This forces us to rethink what “distance” and “locality” even mean.
Einstein called this “spooky action at a distance.” He thought hidden variables might explain it. But decades of precise experiments proved him wrong. The effect is real, not an illusion. Entangled particles remain linked in ways that classical physics cannot describe.
🚨: NASA revived the 47-years-old Voyager 1 spacecraft by successfully reactivating its frozen thrusters from 15 billion miles away!
NASA engineers revived a set of Voyager 1’s backup thrusters that hadn’t worked since 2004. Those thrusters were long considered dead. The fix gives the aging spacecraft a backup if its primary thrusters fail.
Voyager 1’s primary thrusters are degrading due to residue buildup. If they fail, the probe could lose its ability to point its antenna at Earth and lose communication after nearly 50 years of operation.
NEWS🚨: Every 44 minutes, Earth gets a signal — NASA now knows who’s sending it — unknown object sending both radio waves and X-rays with such perfect timing has defied current understanding of the universe!
The object is called ASKAP J1832−0911, or ASKAP J1832.
It belongs to “long period radio transients” — discovered in 2022 — that change in radio wave intensity over tens of minutes.
Unlike pulsars, which vary many times per second, ASKAP J1832 cycles every 44 minutes.
This makes it thousands of times slower.
