It is related that ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz رحمه الله said to Abū Ḥāzim:

“Advise me.”
He replied: “Lie down and imagine death placed at your head. Then consider: whatever you would wish to find in yourself at that moment, commit to it now; and whatever you would hate to find
in yourself at that moment, abandon it now.”

Narrated by Sayyidunā Abū Hurayrah
It was from the supplications of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ:

“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from an evil neighbor, from a spouse who will make my hair turn gray before old age, from a child who will be a lord over me, from wealth that will
become a punishment upon me, and from a treacherous companion whose eyes look at me while his heart watches me — if he sees something good, he conceals it, but if he sees something bad, he spreads it.”

— Al-Ṭabarānī, Al-Duʿāʼ, ḥadīth no. 1339

The Beautiful Character of the Prophet ﷺ
What Generosity ! ﷺ

Sayyidunā Ibn ʿUmar (may Allāh be pleased with him) said:

One day, a cloth merchant came, and the Prophet ﷺ bought a shirt from him for four dirhams. He went out wearing it, when a man from the Anṣār saw him and
said:

“O Messenger of Allāh, clothe me with a shirt – may Allāh clothe you with the garments of Paradise.”

The Prophet ﷺ removed his shirt and gave it to him. Then he returned to the merchant, bought another shirt for four dirhams, and had two dirhams left.
On his way, he saw a young slave girl crying. He asked her:

“Why are you crying?”

She replied: “O Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, my family gave me two dirhams to buy flour with, but they were lost.”

The Prophet ﷺ gave her the two remaining dirhams. She left, still weeping.

The Deceased are Presented your Actions

It is related the Prophet ﷺ said

“Indeed, your deeds are presented to your relatives and clans from among the deceased. If it is good, they rejoice at it. But if it is otherwise, they say: O Allāh, do not cause them to die until You
guide them, just as You guided us.”

Musnad Aḥmad 12683

In Ibn Abī al-Dunyā, Kitāb al-Manāmāt

Sayyidunā Abū Ayyūb (al-Anṣārī) said

“Your deeds are presented to the dead. If they see something good, they rejoice and are glad and say: O Allah, this is Your blessing upon Your servant, so complete it for him. And if they see something

Read Qur'ān in Secret

Sayyidunā ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:

“The one who recites the Qur’ān aloud is like the one who gives charity openly, and the one who recites the Qur’ān quietly is like the one who gives
charity secretly.”

Abū ʿĪsā (al-Tirmidhī) said: This ḥadīth is ḥasan gharīb.

The meaning of this ḥadīth is that the one who recites the Qur’ān quietly is better than the one who recites it aloud, because giving charity secretly is better according to the people of knowledge
than giving it openly.

And the meaning of this, according to the people of knowledge, is so that a person may be safe from self-admiration (ʿujb). For the one who keeps his deed secret is not in danger of ʿujb (self-admiration), unlike the one who does it openly.

The Advice of the Prophet ﷺ and the Best of All Women

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Indeed, the woman is ʿawrah (something to be covered and protected). When she goes out, Shayṭān seeks to tempt her. And she is closest to her Lord when she is in the depths of her home.”
Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Khuzaymah 1685

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his daughter Fāṭimah (peace be upon her):
“What is best for a woman?”
She replied: “That
she does not see any man, nor does any man see her.”
So he embraced her and said: “An offspring, one from another” [Āl ʿImrān 3:34], and he approved of her answer.

60 Years of Worship v 6 Nights of Zina v Loaf of Bread in Charity

From Musannaf Ibn Abī Shaybah (ḥadīth no. 10075 and others

Sayyidunā ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd) said:

“A monk worshipped Allah in his hermitage for sixty years. A woman came and stayed beside him, so he
descended to her and had intercourse with her for six nights. Then he was overcome with regret, so he fled. He came to a mosque, sought refuge there, and stayed for three days without eating anything. A loaf of bread was brought to him, so he broke it in half and gave one half
to a man on his right, and the other half to a man on his left. Then an angel was sent to him and took his soul. The deeds of sixty years were placed in one pan of the scale, and the sin was placed in the other, and the sin outweighed them. Then the loaf of bread was brought,
