As a member of GenX well into middle age, I’m starting to hit those milestones like “Oh it’s time to have a colonoscopy.” Great fun 2/9
I followed through with that ordeal and had no issues except the gastro doc wanted me to get a CBC (complete blood count) drawn afterwards to insure that I wasn’t anemic. “Just got to any lab” he says 3/9
I thought “Well I’ll just go to the lab at my primary care providers office since she referred me for the colonoscopy.” Logical? 4/9
Apparently because the gastroenterologist who ordered the CBC is affiliated with GastroHealth & not Providence Swedish, it DOESN’T MATTER that I am a patient of Providence Swedish & my primary care provider ordered the colonoscopy referral 5/9
The lab at my primary care provider’s office wouldn’t draw this simple blood test and said I had to go to another location 6/9
By this time I’m frustrated and tired but I go to the other location. Crowded, disorganized, impersonal (check-in kiosk). I sat down & waited for about 15 minutes, but I got fed up and left 7/9
I got a text message a little over a half an hour later saying that LabCorp was ready to draw my blood. AITA? Maybe I’m just an old RN who can remember a time when we didn’t have middle men drawing labs, primary care providers & other physicians had nurses in house to do this 8/9
This little story is just a snapshot of the US “healthcare” industry as a whole. Why do we accept corporations like @BlackRock profiting on our very lives? 9/9

Giant bubble that has been percolating is getting ready to burst. Trump talked about getting rid of the Department of Education which would be bad enough, but with this announcement about #studentloans we are watching an unmitigated disaster unfold 🧵1/6
It’s unclear whether malice or just sheer incompetence is driving this shift, but the Trump admin cut off access to all income-driven repayment plans & conducted mass layoffs at DOE, (cutting staff by nearly 50%) 2/6
“Since the DOE has removed the application and halted all processing, though, it is not currently possible to recertify income – and this can have dire consequences including higher payments, interest capitalization, and halted progress toward student loan forgiveness” 3/6
The US lost competitiveness & industrial strength because the power elite, starting with Reagan & then really heating up with Clinton. chose to maximize profits by kneecapping labor, off-shoring in a race to the bottom with wages. #Tariffs across the board won’t fix this 🧵1/7
Tariffs are a tax on imports. This tax is paid by importers, in our case US companies, who then pass the additional cost on to consumers in the form of higher prices 2/7
US deindustrialization wiped out the Rust Belt & enabled the rise of China as an economic powerhouse. The US thought that it could remain on top by developing monopolies, especially in tech & pharmaceuticals, & spur economic growth by charging enormous markups 3/7
Since Musk’s latest claims about his timeline for Mars exploration are trending, it’s worth remembering the origin of his fascination with the red planet. Nazi scientist turned US space program engineer Wernher von Braun wrote a book called “Project Mars” in 1953 🧵1/6
In that book, a crewed mission lands on Mars & discovers “the red planet inhabited by indigenous Martians whose society is organized along technocratic lines and led by an executive figure known as an Elon” 2/6liberationnews.org/fascist-futuri…
Musk’s father even claimed that von Braun’s book was a direct inspiration for choosing the name Elon (starts around 3:16) 3/6
“Forgive them, for they know not what they do?” As the second Trump administration proceeds to crucify the US economy, the people pulling the strings know EXACTLY how much pain they are inflicting 🧵1/14
Project 2025, the latest iteration of Heritage Foundation’s “Mandate for Leadership” (blueprint for incoming GOP administrations that began in 1979), provides almost 1,000 pages worth of backbone for a continuation of Reaganomics in the US 2/14medium.com/@nurselawyer/p…
Silicon Valley technocrats like Elon Musk hold the keys for unlocking control of both the public & private sectors. The Trump admin hit the ground running with the Project 2025 gameplan while deploying Musk’s shock troops of DOGE to purposefully “move fast & break things” 3/14
For 40+ years neoliberalism has treated Economics as a high priesthood of solemn esoteric knowledge beyond the grasp of ordinary people. This stance is manipulative & wrong 1/6
Even trained economists may fall into the trap of thinking in absolutes about the discipline 2/6
Politicians & pundits also try to frame Economics in mathematically based black & white terms (think Margaret Thatcher’s infamous “There Is No Alternative” to neoliberalism), but in reality Economics is a social science 3/6
Pro Israel Magen Am or “protector of the nation” is private security for Jewish communities. It began in LA but has spread to AZ. At the beginning the organization offered its services free of charge #UCLAProtest @TinaDesireeBerg 1/7forward.com/news/470196/la…
The head of Magen Am is Rabbi Yossi (Yossi Eilfort) a Chabad affiliated rabbi, MMA fighter, rent-a-cop, and NRA instructor who earns $142k salary for his noble work 3/7
