The recent power cuts in Spain and Portugal showed how quickly card payments can fail, leaving people reliant on cash. This highlights why government action is essential to ensure cash remains accessible for everyone, especially the most vulnerable.
The issue also affects people whose bank cards, including those stored on smartphones, have been lost or stolen and subsequently blocked for fraud protection, forcing them to wait for a replacement to arrive by post or to visit their bank to have their cards reactivated.

1/20 🚌 Running a Local Bus Service in Great Britain 🧵
A local bus service uses public service vehicles (PSVs) to carry passengers paying separate fares over short distances. Routes can vary in length but must allow passengers to exit within 15 miles in straight-line distance.
2/20 🚏 Route Length & Registration
A bus route must allow passengers to exit within 15 miles in straight-line distance. For example, an express service from Bristol to Chepstow needs registration, even though the journey is longer by road.
3/20 📝 Who Can Register?
You can register a local bus service if you:
• Hold a valid PSV operator’s licence
• Have a community bus permit
• Are a local education authority providing school transport
Taxi or PHV owners can also register with a special PSV licence.
