A Stake in the Ground – It Doesn’t Move (Another Song)
This morning the LORD woke me up with yet another song. This one from the sons of Korah who were relatives of Moses and were worshipers of song during the exodus. The sons of Korah have an interesting perspective when singing this song because of the experiences of their father
in a famous revolt against the LORD. It is described in detail in Numbers 16 and it did NOT end well for Korah because he and others tried to get out ahead of the LORD in a famous revolt. Based on this timeline and their personal understanding of the importance of trusting
(waiting on) the LORD, it gives me greater emphasis on the importance of this psalm. Just as his sons did, we should learn from the mistakes of their father Korah. Wait on the LORD!
The second stanza that begins at verse 4 stands out to me with another message about a city
(similar to my previous message about the tale of 2 cities). In this stanza, this city is described as one that will not be moved (a stake in the ground) because God is in her midst. Everything around her is in chaos, but God’s presence and thundering voice is there as her rock.
Finally this song ends with yet another reminder for us all to just be still and know that He is God (we are not). He is our fortress and protector and He knows precisely what He is doing. Now, this is how the sons of Korah sang it:
God the Refuge of His People and Conqueror of
the Nations
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. A Song for Alamoth.
1 God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah
4 There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;
God shall help
her, just at the break of dawn.
6 The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
8 Come, behold the works of the Lord,
Who has made desolations in the earth.
9 He makes
wars cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariot in the fire.
10 Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our
refuge. Selah - Psalms 46

A Stake in the Ground – Being Still by Moving Out of the Way
This is the word that the LORD gave me this morning. It is a word of love and admonition to all of us and it speaks to me especially. It is a reminder that sometimes having that stake in the ground and being still to wait on the LORD will look like getting out of His way.
When the Holy Spirit does His work in and through us, it is always for the purpose of God’s glory to shine in our lives. That work can not be imitated or mimicked by us being in the middle and trying to help out. There are many examples throughout the bible where when we do this,

A Stake in the Ground – The Tale of Two Cities
Today’s devotional is based on a song or a poem given by Isaiah to the king and people of Jerusalem before they were taken into exile by Babylon. It is the first and predominant part of this poem (the last 12 verses are in the next chapter).
Overall, the poem is one of warning
to the people. It metaphorically described two cities. One is very attentive to the LORD, seeks after and recognizes Him with all of their focus, and understands that He is their true source of everything. Because of this understanding, they seek to acknowledge and give all glory

A Stake in the Ground – Who Are You Really Going to Believe?
Today’s devotional theme is based on what God says about us as compared to what Satan says. To really summarize what could be a long message, God says that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made,” a truly amazing creation that was in fact designed in His own image and all we
really need is Him. He says that He will never leave nor forsake us and all we have to do is just believe what He says. Sounds simple, right?
The enemy shouts at us that we are hopelessly broken and must take matters into our own hands to protect and take care of ourselves. He

The Depth of the Meaning of “God Reigns”
This morning the LORD woke me up with this simple theme of “God rules in the affairs of men.” After I woke up and pondered this, He whispered to me that this goes along with the concept of there being no coincidences. He is sovereign and controls every aspect of things that
happen AROUND us. He already knows every event that will take place and every experience that each one of us will have. He already knows and He is using all of it to speak to us, telling a story and carrying out His plan. (Romans 8:28)

A Stake in the Ground – Scorched Earth and 3 Kings
When we started this series about a stake in the ground, I told you after that night that there was so much to be told that if I were to write it all in a single devotional it would be contained in several books. I also introduced a key component of the theme as being the
scorched earth strategy. Our real enemy will spare no cost to achieve his objective of death, destruction, suffering and despair. All of these things are the opposite of God’s desires and promises for all of us. The LORD has made a way for each one of us to receive the keys to

A Stake in the Ground - Tender Moments That Define Slavery
This morning’s message was inspired by a statement by a Dallas area pastor about prayer. I saw the statement in a post by a dearly beloved brother and it spoke to me. The pastor drew an analogy about how our government is now telling us that we need to wash our hands many times
throughout the day for at least 20 seconds each time. He said that a better recommendation would be for us to take advantage of all of that time THROUGHOUT the day when our hands are together to pray and ask for direction from the LORD.
