Good evening Indy. I'll be live-reporting from today's Wayne Township School Board Meeting for #indydocumenters @indydocumenterss @mirrorindy. Meeting is starting now at 6:30!
We start with the swearing in of Jeffrey Patterson to the M.S.D. of Wayne Township Police
We move on to Agenda item 3 and 4. We're hearing about collective bargaining of teachers salaries, wages, and wage related benefits. 2 minute remarks from the public. There was only 1 individual signed up to speak, who said only a few words. We're quickly onto the next item
Agenda item 3. No action tonight but only review. Proposal to adopt the 2026 budget will happen in October. Areas like technology, building (interior and exterior), and safety upgrades included.
The 2026 budget proposal broken into two categories: Capital Projects Plan and Bus Replacement Plan. Estimating 12 buses to be replace for 2026.
Agenda 3 has been approved by board
There wasn't anyone signed for Agenda item 4, Public Comment.
We moved on the Financial Report, agenda item 5. Board has approved the financial report without discussion.
Both reports (A-1, A-2) under Agenda item 7 New Business : Human Resource were approved by the Board without discussion. We now move onto the donations to both elementary and secondary schools. Board approves donations.
Proposed field trips have also been approved by the Board with little discussion.
Items 7D received some discussion, mainly around how important it is for all devices within the township. It'll help with things like protecting against malware and phishing attacks.
7E: proposal to dispose of tech surplus.
Both of these have been approved by the Board.
7F: resolution to establish and approve a Self Insurance fund.
A cost saving strategy related to their liability insurance.
Self Insurance Fund is a way to alleviate the estimated 1.9mil to be paid in 2025. New plan to reduce costs to 1.65m but more risk is assumed
M.S.D. of Wayne Township wouldn't be the first township to consider this but ultimately not that common.
Board approves the resolution
Some remarks at Adjournment. AES has proposed a rate increase, looking about a 23% increase over the next 2 years. If approved, it'll be about 4mil a year just on utilities which will take a lot from their operations fund. This would be almost a 100% increase over the last decade
District event announcements for September are announced before the meeting is officially adjourned at 7:15pm

The BMV is considering changing their policy around gender markers on licenses. The marker will coincide with a person's sex rather than gender
The court concluded that the gender of a credential holder, under Title 9 generally, and IC 9-24-11-5(a)(6) specifically, refers to a credential holder’s “sex”–the trait of being either female or male
