This is the word that the LORD placed on my heart as He gently woke me this morning. It is a theme based on a play on words. You see, it is a word that could be called the “Beginning of the End” or it could be called “The End of the Beginning.” It is also a word about then (the
historical day we celebrate every year on Good Friday and the events that surrounded it) or now (the days in which we are living right now and all of the events that surround them). In the end, it is a message about hope and “change.”
On this day in history, Jesus’ disciples and
followers witnessed everything that was happening and they all truly thought it was the beginning of the end. Although they had spent a lot of time with the LORD and listened to much of what He had taught them, on this day the activities of the enemy captivated their attention
and they thought it was truly the beginning of the end. They thought this was a day that was a game changer and that all was lost.
But Jesus knew that it was actually the end of the beginning and that this day would mark a new era for everyone concerned. For those who believed
Him, it was actually the beginning of really good things to come. It is ironic that only a few days prior to this Jesus had given them a hint about this new beginning in John 16:7-11. In these verses after giving them a reference that this day was indeed coming, He said it was
good that He was leaving because He was going to send a Helper to clean the world up, both the good (God’s children) and the bad (the followers of this world) – paraphrased. Things were just getting started and this was truly a moment of change for EVERYONE who watched what
happened that day.
Do you remember when a few days ago I gave you the devotional scripture based on Psalms 46 and mentioned how it was a song by the sons of Korah? This Korah was part of the famous rebellion with Dathan and Abiram against Moses and the LORD that is described in
Numbers 16. That event represents another illustration of this principle of the end versus the beginning. You see, in that Numbers 16 rebellion, Korah joined with these 2 other men in this action to stir up trouble among the people. When God’s judgment came, the earth opened up
and swallowed (killed) these three men and ALL of their families (Numbers 16:31-32). BUT the sons of Korah did not die (Numbers 26:11). From what seemed like the end based on the actions of their father, God wrote a new beginning with Korah’s sons later worshiping the LORD and
singing one of the well-known Psalms in the bible still today.
In all of the examples above, the LORD demonstrates for us this very important principle based on today’s “play on words”:
He has a perspective that is unique from ours in that He was there in the beginning, has
already seen the end, and is THE agent of change between the two.
God bless and keep us all as we remember His promises.
12 “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,
the Beginning and the End.” - Revelation 22:12-13

A Stake in the Ground – Being Still by Moving Out of the Way
This is the word that the LORD gave me this morning. It is a word of love and admonition to all of us and it speaks to me especially. It is a reminder that sometimes having that stake in the ground and being still to wait on the LORD will look like getting out of His way.
When the Holy Spirit does His work in and through us, it is always for the purpose of God’s glory to shine in our lives. That work can not be imitated or mimicked by us being in the middle and trying to help out. There are many examples throughout the bible where when we do this,

A Stake in the Ground – It Doesn’t Move (Another Song)
This morning the LORD woke me up with yet another song. This one from the sons of Korah who were relatives of Moses and were worshipers of song during the exodus. The sons of Korah have an interesting perspective when singing this song because of the experiences of their father
in a famous revolt against the LORD. It is described in detail in Numbers 16 and it did NOT end well for Korah because he and others tried to get out ahead of the LORD in a famous revolt. Based on this timeline and their personal understanding of the importance of trusting

A Stake in the Ground – The Tale of Two Cities
Today’s devotional is based on a song or a poem given by Isaiah to the king and people of Jerusalem before they were taken into exile by Babylon. It is the first and predominant part of this poem (the last 12 verses are in the next chapter).
Overall, the poem is one of warning
to the people. It metaphorically described two cities. One is very attentive to the LORD, seeks after and recognizes Him with all of their focus, and understands that He is their true source of everything. Because of this understanding, they seek to acknowledge and give all glory

A Stake in the Ground – Who Are You Really Going to Believe?
Today’s devotional theme is based on what God says about us as compared to what Satan says. To really summarize what could be a long message, God says that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made,” a truly amazing creation that was in fact designed in His own image and all we
really need is Him. He says that He will never leave nor forsake us and all we have to do is just believe what He says. Sounds simple, right?
The enemy shouts at us that we are hopelessly broken and must take matters into our own hands to protect and take care of ourselves. He

The Depth of the Meaning of “God Reigns”
This morning the LORD woke me up with this simple theme of “God rules in the affairs of men.” After I woke up and pondered this, He whispered to me that this goes along with the concept of there being no coincidences. He is sovereign and controls every aspect of things that
happen AROUND us. He already knows every event that will take place and every experience that each one of us will have. He already knows and He is using all of it to speak to us, telling a story and carrying out His plan. (Romans 8:28)

A Stake in the Ground – Scorched Earth and 3 Kings
When we started this series about a stake in the ground, I told you after that night that there was so much to be told that if I were to write it all in a single devotional it would be contained in several books. I also introduced a key component of the theme as being the
scorched earth strategy. Our real enemy will spare no cost to achieve his objective of death, destruction, suffering and despair. All of these things are the opposite of God’s desires and promises for all of us. The LORD has made a way for each one of us to receive the keys to
