Doubt I'm the 1st to say this, but..

Yes, obvs a good chance Kirk's assassin is someone hostile to the MAGAsphere as a whole: a liberal, a leftist, etc

However...

I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn the killer is primarily an Epstein obsessive.

Recently...

1/
...Kirk made news, leading the Right's wild Epstein about-face:

“I'm done talking about Epstein. I'm gonna trust my friends in the govt.”

Most MAGAs...didn't care. Epstein rumors for many just painted a vague picture of evil elites.

As for details:🤷‍♀️

Yet imagine how
2/
...Kirk's about-face would strike a true believer, who'd taken the worst rumors as literal, specific fact.

For them, the "Epstein cover-up" is a world-historical outrage. Finding "the truth about Epstein" is a passionate cause.

Now, these true believers can be found...

3/
...across the political spectrum, w concentrations at right & left extremes.

What distinguished the MAGA obsessives was an initial belief they had allies in the Trump admin.

Bondi's fumbling & her DOJ/FBI report proved otherwise

But at least they had Kirk. Right?

4/
Kirk wasn't a bomb-throwing chaotic Trumper. He was an insider. Sport coats & a congenial manner. Red lines he wouldn't cross to his own right.

iow he conformed w the party line, AKA whatever Trump most recently said.

However...

5/
In July, Kirk took a step out of conformance to attack Bondi & the report's apparent omissions...

...only to cave w a crazy about-face Trump demanded

Our Epstein obsessive, stung by Bondi, was betrayed by the one insider who'd given him hope!

---
Or not 🙄

Who knows?

NEW FALSE DOGE CLAIMS?

A friend knowledgeable about govt contracting noticed some DOGE claims of money saved that are... unusual.

I'm trying to follow his explanation. I might just share DM screenshots and let you all figure it out lol.

I haven't seen these reported.

PREDICTION:

Absolute bullshit. Completely untrue.
Since some ppl are either pretending not to understand my tweet or actually not understanding it, I am ofc not saying that Elon made the numbers up out of thin air.

The absolute bullshit is the contention that these numbers, as presented, indicate fraud on a massive scale--possibly "the biggest fraud in history"

They indicate no such thingImage
it seems that this mystery was solved in 2023, in a SSA report. Image

Time to debate openly the "Black voter revolt" claim used to foist Harris as the only Biden alternative.

I'm w Tyler: I doubt it's importantly true; & it's certainly infantilizing to assume Black voters are incapable of seeing why an unpopular VP shouldn't run.

1/
Note the practical question isn't "Will some Black voters resent Kamala getting passed over?"

The question is whether passing her & Biden over for a different (no doubt multiracial) ticket will cost Dems Black votes *in swing states* **on net**.

The answer isnt obvs at all.
2/
"I'm not voting against Trump because you passed Kamala over" is something that will be said. I'm sure it will be meant by a few. But I seriously doubt the loss wont be compensated for by gains from other voters with an unalterably negative image of Kamala.

SCOOPLET + 🧵

Danielle Allen, a highly respected Harvard poli sci prof, interviewed for the presidency in 2022.

She didn't get past an early round.

Worth asking why Gay got the job while Allen didn't come close.

I'm not saying I know. But it sure wasn't scholarship...

1/ Image
Gay notoriously never published a single book.

Allen, who is slightly younger, published eight books, most with prestigious academic presses.

As for scholarly articles, Allen has 50+ to Gay's 11.

Here are some of Allen's article titles:

Because Gay & Allen teach in the same department, Government (Harvard-speak for Political Science), the comparison is apples-to-apples.

To be clear, it's not just that Allen's pub list is longer than Gay's. There are also qualitative differences in levels of recognition.

👀

Harvard inside dope from the weekend: faculty support for Gay fading, her supporters on the defensive or mum.

V. famous senior prof usually above university politics told colleagues she has to go.

Others ready to go on record.

All this *before* the latest reports.

👀
To be clear: Gay absolutely could still keep her job. Her fate may not be publicly apparent until the summer.

But her support appears to be more tentative and volatile than published reports had led me, at least, to believe.
Ppl curious about my sources here, why I’d be in a position to hear this.

I talk to a lot of ppl and a lot of ppl talk to me. That’s it!

I also have the advantage of being two people, corporeal me & Twitter me.

Always fun when we both hear the same thing from different ppl

NYT reporting on Neely’s last few years paints a picture of social services in NYC more impressively staffed, organized, and responsive to individual cases than standard Left *or* Right discourse acknowledges. Image
There’s of course an inevitable trade off between liberty & safeguards for the mentally ill that our society has lately settled in favor of liberty.

Social services working under these constraints can be highly functional without guaranteeing a happy outcome in each case.
To be clear:

He was a felon *and* mentally ill. Both can be true

My point was that social services in NYC appear, per NYT, better resourced, etc than right & left discourse commonly assume.

Police and legislative failures are separate issues, w both arguably implicated here.
