The whole current game started in March 2025, when Trump said the US was interested in minerals including critical ones in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰. I flagged this in April (see attached photo). Since then, we’ve seen the KP Mines & Minerals Bill fiasco.

The MMB plan stalled after strong resistance from KP residents & PTI supporters. The next move from the Estb appeared to be reviving the TTP issue, creating a pretext for Mil Ops & gaining control of areas rich in critical minerals under the banner of fighting militancy.

Estb views Mil Ops against the TTP as a way to draw the US back into 🇦🇫 with boots on the ground (photo attached). Their logic is to create instability along the border, claiming TTP threatens US interests in 🇦🇫 & 🇵🇰 mineral sites, & offer cooperation in exchange for

investment & support for the ruling regime. The US, however, has little appetite for another ground deployment in Afghanistan. China has already made large investments there, and the Taliban are increasingly aligned with Beijing rather than Washington (photo attached).

From Khan’s viewpoint, this isn’t only about security or minerals. It’s about protecting KP’s people from cycles of militancy & military action. This is why he calls for dialogue among all parties. Taliban, motivated by their interest in stability & Chinese investment,

appear open to sincere talks. However 🇵🇰 Mil Estb recently hosted ( or tried to) an anti-Taliban lobby event, a move also highlighted by Zalmay Khalilzad (see photos). As it seems this was what Khan was referring to in his tweet by stating "Anti-Taliban Lobby".

Military accounts are saying Khan is “siding with militants.” That’s not his stance. He argues that repeating old operations only brings more violence, displacement, and mistrust. Security forces and civilians both pay the price, while the root problem stays.

His call for dialogue isn’t leniency toward TTP. He demands a political strategy that can protect citizens and isolate TTP. KP people don’t oppose action against terrorism. They oppose blanket Ops planned without their input. They have lived through the fallout before.

Homes & families destroyed, local economy ruined. They don’t want that cycle again. This is the lens through which Khan’s tweet should be read.
