Last night #SB79, one of the biggest housing bills in CA history, made it out of the State Assembly with one vote to spare.

The data is fascinating.

Let’s dive into the details, and see how your State Assemblymember voted. 👇 Image
Once again, LA politicians showed they aren't serious about solving the housing shortage.

In the Bay, 22 of 30 Assemblymembers voted Yes.

In SoCal, only 17 of 44 voted Yes.

Dems like @MayorOfLA fought SB 79 while young champions like @AsmSadeElhawary looked to the future. Image

Showing YIMBYs true bipartisan nature, 35% of Assembly Republicans voted for SB 79.

And even though @CA_Dem endorsed the legislation, only 42% of Assembly Democrats voted for the bill.

Ironic considering CA will lose 3-5 Dem congressional seats if we don't grow.
We need to strengthen pro-housing organizing in SoCal and beyond. Join @peoplefirstcal as we build a movement for changemakers, not cheerleaders.

Fascinating to see the stark rural/urban and north/south divide on #SB79, the biggest housing bill of the year.

Let’s dive into the details, and see how your State Senator voted. 👇 Image
Look at the difference between NorCal and SoCal.

In the Bay, out of the 11 Senators repping urban areas, 8 voted yes.

In LA County, out of 13 Senators only 4 voted yes.

The LA delegation is killing housing bills. Image

Also of note, rural reps in the Central Valley and elsewhere, where its provisions hardly applied, overwhelmingly voted for the bill.

Urban reps fought against their future constituents. Image

Extremely proud to announce the Student Housing Crisis Act of 2023 #AB1630 and the formation of the #StudentHOMESCoalition today in Sacramento!

With this new legislation, we can truly make a significant dent in lack of affordable homes for students.
Over the past few months, a new coalition between @_UCSA, @SSCCC_OFFICIAL, and @GENupUS has formed to create legislation under the banner of the #StudentHOMESCoalition, with myself as Chair.

Partnering with @AsmEGarcia, we are now launching #AB1630.
Within 1,000 ft of colleges and universities, #AB1630 would enable the construction of housing up to 3 floors without density restrictions, so long as 20% of units are affordable for low income students, staff, and faculty.
