I have resigned as the honorary secretary of the Oxford Literary Debating & Union Trust, the charity that owns the @OxfordUnion’s buildings, and dispenses its charitable responsibilities onto the Union as its delegate.
The callousness of the Union’s President-Elect has shocked me, but I also can't accept the lack of intervention on the issue.
The trust is full of the most incredible people. I hope this ultimately helps, in a tiny way, a great British institution that I care so much about.
@OxfordUnion Unfortunately, it appears that the President-Elect has further rowed back any apology by saying that what he said was no worse than what Mr Kirk has said.
Given the horrors we have seen in Sydney, it’s important that I share a video I took this past Friday. It was on London’s Park Lane, one of the poshest streets in the world.
A crowd of hundreds of men scream “ALLAHU AKHBAR” & demand the release of a literal Jihadist terrorist 🧵
These monsters are demanding the release, from an Italian prison, of Najmadin Faraj Ahmad, better known as Mullah Krekar.
He is a Kurdish jihadist who founded Ansar Al-Islam, a short-lived Islamic statelet that imposed strict sharia law on Kurdish villages in the early 2000s.
During the liberation of Iraq in 2003, Operation Viking Hammer saw the defeat of this group by the amazing secular Kurdish Peshmerga working with American special forces units.
We all know that the Green Party's leader thinks it's good to arrest people for tweets and has claimed that he could enlarge a woman's breasts with the power of his mind - for a fee, of course.
But what about their newly elected Deputy Leader, Mr Mothin Ali? A short 🧵
Mr Ali was elected as a Green councillor early last year, and led his supporters in a rousing cry of 'allahu akhbar' at the count. He accused anyone who mentioned this novel (in Britain) reaction at an election count as islamophobic.
Prior to his election, Mr Ali had some strong views on the Israeli/Gaza conflict, thousands of miles away from his council seat.
Indeed he seemed to give justification for the attacks of October 7th, by saying "Every single person, every single people have a right to fight back, every single people have a right to live free of occupiers. That includes people who are brown, that includes people who are Muslim".
Ahead of his book coming out this week, @nadhimzahawi has been on media about his time in Government, his remarkable life story & the social & political challenges facing the UK. A 🧵on part of his interview with @TimesRadio about islamist extremism & what needs do be done 1/13
Q: In practical terms, what does a national effort to unite the country look like?
A: We need to speak to the people being impacted by both legal & illegal migration. This will be the challenge of the decade in Europe, it’s already brought down the Dutch Government. 2/13
We Conservatives should put our hands up, as many candidates in the leadership contest have done, and say we made a mistake, [migration] is far too high….and a mistake was made by Starmer scrapping Rwanda just as other European countries start looking at these schemes. 3/13
Over 48 hours, the Business Secretary @KemiBadenoch has made not one, but 4 really impressive & brave interventions across education, health, business & liberties. They show the best combination of conservative & classical liberal thinking & are deeply encouraging!
A short 🧵
🏫 Praised the success of the fantastic Michaela Community School, headed by @Miss_Snuffy, against a nasty little legal challenge. Badenoch said “The Equality Act is a shield, not a sword and teachers must not be threatened into submission.” A brilliant line!
🚬 Voted against the illogical and illiberal smoking bill, citing;
The fundamental principle of equality under the law & not setting a two tier legal code.
Highlighting the enforcement issues. (Cannabis has been illegal for nearly a century - do we have a weed free generation?)
