2. It all started in the early hours of September 19, 1976, over Tehran, Iran.
Around 12:30 AM, the Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF) command post received multiple calls from civilians reporting a bright, shining object in the sky.
It wasn’t a star or plane, it was hovering and changing colors.

3. The object was picked up on radar too, so the IIAF scrambled an F-4 Phantom II jet from Shahrokhi Air Force Base (now Hamadan Air Base) to investigate.
The first pilot, Lieutenant Yaddi Nazeri, along with his backseat weapons officer, took off around 1:30 AM.

4. As Nazeri approached the object at about 25 nautical miles out, he reported losing all instrumentation and communications.

He turned back toward base, and everything came back online once he was far enough away.

5. They weren’t done yet though.
A second F-4 was launched around 1:40 AM, piloted by Major Parviz Jafari (then a squadron commander) with First Lieutenant Jalal Damirian as weapons officer.
Jafari got a radar lock on the object from 27 nautical miles, it was huge, about the size of a Boeing KC-135 tanker.

6. Visually, Jafari described it as flashing intensely with red, green, orange, and blue lights, so bright he couldn’t make out the shape at first.

Communications failed too.
He banked hard to evade, and the smaller object followed for a bit before rejoining the main one.

8. Then, another bright object separated from the primary UFO and headed straight down toward the ground.
Jafari thought it was crashing, but it seemed to land gently in a dry lake bed area, lighting up the surroundings like daylight for a couple of miles.

Jafari circled back to Tehran but couldn’t relocate it.
The next day, Jafari and others helicoptered to the “landing” site.
They found nothing visual, but locals reported a loud noise and bright flash overnight.

10. Interestingly, investigators found a beeping transponder from a U.S. C-141 aircraft at the site, but that doesn’t explain the rest.
The incident was reported to U.S. intelligence the same day, and a declassified DIA memo called it “an outstanding report” due to multiple qualified observers and radar confirmation. 🇺🇸
