Happy Wednesday everyone! My name is Ava Grubb and tonight I’ll be covering the 7th district police council meeting for @CHIdocumenters #CHIdocumenters.

The meeting has officially been called to order at 6:12 pm.
Teresa Chandler, Dion T. McGill and Joseph Williams are all present, meaning that council quorum has been met.
A motion has been passed for the Captian Butler of the 7th district to present on the strategic planning of violence within the district.
In comparison to 2024, homocide rates have gone down over 48 percent throughout the district.
Both violent and nonviolent crimes have gone down a significant amount throughout the district, with all decrease statistics for each form of crime ranging between 30 to 50 percent.
Butler also makes a note that robberies are both a common crime throughout the area, but also a seasonal issue.
Butler is now discussing outreach plans for at-risk individuals where police officers will reach out in person to youth throughout the area, with the goal of promoting resources such as education and career opportunities.
Community members are now asking the council about the lack of community members attending the meeting tonight, which McGill is attesting to community members not having transparent information regarding the committee, along with a lack of investment in marketing.
Williams adds on that the committee's goal is to continue to build trust within the community, and wants to put themselves out within the community so they can be seen as a resource.
We have been given a clarification on what the district strategic plan is; these plans work along DSP programs to help neighborhoods make specific plans based on the individual needs of each neighborhood.
One public comment was made by a community member Linda, highlighting a community Gala taking place at the Lindblom Park District on October 25th 2025. Tickets are 45 dollars per person and include dinner and entertainment.
We are now currently discussing work that district council members have done throughout other council meetings this past month, along with other outreach work at the state level.
We are currently seeing a rise in incarceration rates at Cook County jail.
McGill says that when he took on this role he learned that"serving Englewood means serving all of Englewood" and says "Fuck ICE". The council supports all community members in protecting themselves and others as the city navigates these arrests.
The council has voted to approve their meeting minutes from the prior meeting, and the meeting has been ajourned at 7:01pm.
