He says “we will see how that turns out,” and that “Russia and Ukraine will get done, but … you never know in war, you know, war is a different thing.”
Starmer to Trump: "We HAVE TO put extra pressure on Putin"
"We have to ramp that pressure up"
Starmer: “… We saw damage and bombing to the British Council in Kyiv. These are targets that it was thought until recently were not targets will be hit — the British Council, the European Union embassy, the Council of Ministers, where President Zelenskyy is, ministers work — was hit again. These were thought to be places that wouldn't be hit, and then the incursion into Poland last week. And if you put that together, what you can see is either an emboldenment or at least an increased recklessness of Putin's part, and that's why I said earlier that they're not the actions of someone who wants peace.”
“So we have to ramp up. And we discussed earlier today, we have built the Coalition of the Willing with British leadership and French leadership stepping up with military planning in the seas, in the sky, in the on the ground, and ramping up what we do with the Ukrainians themselves. And of course, that taken with an American guarantee is now an example, I think, of Europe stepping up to the plate, which it has done in the last few months, to show through what we and the French have done, that we're prepared to take the lead in this..”
Trump says he hopes “we’re going to have some good news for you coming up.”
“I will say this, it’s millions of people have died in that war, millions of souls, and they’re not American the soldiers, mostly soldiers, … [that] are being killed at levels nobody’s seen since the second world war. But they’re being they’re being killed, and I feel I have an obligation to get it settled for that reason.”
He repeatedly says that the Russian invasion of Ukraine was potentially “heading to a third world war,” although “I don’t think we’re going to go there now.”
“If the oil price comes down, very simply, Russia will settle,” Trump insists.
Says he is willing “to do other things” to help Europeans push back against Russia, but “not when the people that I’m fighting for are buying oil from Russia.”
“You can’t [do that], that’s not playing fair with the United States, and we can’t have that,” he says.

NEW!!! Trump told reporters on AF1 en route to Alaska that it’s up to Kyiv to decide on whether it will engage in territorial swaps with Moscow..
Said he would let Ukraine make the decision.
Trump also said that, despite both the U.S. and Russian delegations for the summit seemingly looking geared towards business and economic interests, it's his priority to reach a deal on the war before moving on to other areas.
Asked about security guarantees for Ukraine, Trump says U.S. could be involved, "along with Europe and other countries".
But he adds this won't be in the form of NATO membership for Ukraine, saying there are "certain things that are not gonna happen".
BREAKING!!! White House Peace Summit to unveil 'Trump Route' infrastructure plan to bridge Armenia and Azerbaijan
Ahead of this Friday's Trump-Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting, I spoke with multiple U.S. officials
Here are some of my notes: 👇
1/5
The summit on Friday is not the final peace agreement, but a crucial step that sets the stage for a lasting peace.
The leaders will be signing multiple documents:
There's no longer corridor. The central focus of the summit is a new transit and development plan called the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" or TRIPP.
JUST NOW!!! A UN Commission report says, russia's enforced disappearances of Ukrainians amount to crimes against humanity
Large numbers of civilians were detained in areas under russian control or deported to russia, where some were later subjected to torture and sexual violence, according to new UN report.
"Both were perpetrated as part of a widespread and systematic attack against the civilian population and pursuant to a coordinated state policy," says the report, which was submitted to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
"The most brutal forms of torture were used during interrogations, which were often led by the Federal Security Service and the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation," the report added.
Russia has failed to disclose the whereabouts of missing persons, leaving Ukrainian families in agonizing uncertainty, Erik Mose, the commission's chairman, told the @UN_HRC
At least 50,000 people have been reported missing in the war over the last year...
HAPPENING NOW! Trump was just asked: "... Putin is bombing Ukraine. Do you still believe him when he tells you that he wants peace? "
"... right now they're bombing the hell out of Ukraine. I'm finding it more difficult, frankly, to deal with Ukraine. They don't have the guards. As you know, we're meeting in Saudi Arabia on sometime next week or and we're talking, I find that in terms of getting a final settlement, it may be easier dealing with Russia, which is surprising, because they have all the cards, and they're bombing the hell out of them right now. And I put a statement in a very strong statement, can't do that. Can't do that. We're trying to help them."
more to come...
"Do you think that Vladimir Putin is taking advantage of the U.S. pause right now on intelligence and military aid to Ukraine?" — Trump was just asked.
Trump: "... I actually think he's doing what anybody else would do. I think he wants to get it stopped and settled. And I think he's hitting harder than he's been hitting. And I think probably anybody in that position would be doing that right now. He wants to get it ended. And I think Ukraine wants to get it ended, but I don't see... it's crazy. They're taking tremendous punishment. I don't quite get it"
"Why not give Ukraine air defenses to prevent Putin from pounding them?" — Trump was just asked
Trump: “I have to know that they want to settle. I don’t know that they want to settle. If they don't want to settle, we're out of there because we want them to settle.“
JUST NOW!!! United States announced its largest sanctions yet on russia’s energy sector targeting Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegas, as well as russian energy officials and energy traders, and 183 Russian boats known as russia’s “shadow fleet”
These sanctions align with G7 commitments and are timed due to improved global oil markets and reduced inflation, senior Biden administration officials told reporters on call.
"With today’s actions, we are ratcheting up the sanctions risk associated with Russia’s oil trade, including shipping and financial facilitation in support of Russia’s oil exports," U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement.
As for the implications of today's sanctions, administration officials went on to explain doing business with the oil and gas companies by using dollars will not be permitted, making it harder for countries to purchase Russian exports.
Moscow will have to build a new shadow fleet. The financial ecosystem Russia uses for the oil trade will be degraded after today's sanctions.
When asked about the timing of today's measures, the officials said that “Oil markets and the US economy are in a fundamentally better place.”
“If we had taken the moves earlier, then prices would have gone up, allowing Russian revenue to grow,” the officials said. Now, forecasters expect supply to exceed demand. And since U.S. inflation is back down toward 2%, that allows Americans to absorb any increase in the price of gas.
HAPPENING NOW! Blinken wraps up G7 meetings, says G7 partners 'determined' that Ukraine has the money, munitions and mobilized forces to fight effectively in 2025 or to negotiate, but from a position of strength.
Blinken re: G7 talks on Ukraine: "We're also finalizing getting out the door the $50 billion that have been secured on the basis of the Russian sovereign assets that are frozen."
Blinken just now: “The reality is this: Ukraine is fighting for us. It’s not just fighting for itself…”
“… So standing for Ukraine, is, I believe, an important national interest”
