Is there some sort of selection bias where as society gets more bifurcated, queer people naturally cleave to the left and its rhetoric (regardless of actual behavior) and as a result, they are super humanized to liberals, and not even accessible to the right until tragedy strikes

Some diversity initiatives made it so that for many organizations over a very long time often had many many times more queer ppl than they occur in the general population, until that was normal and unsurprising.

Once, there was a bunch of friends who watched tv together, and we

were so game to culturally overcome heterosexual privilege that even though *none* of us was a gay man, only one of us queer, and it wasn't pleasant, we together watched a tv show w/ zero plot but gratuitous gay sex scenes, mostly bc the queer one was writings papers on the show.

I don't mean that gritting your teeth through pointless sex/porn scenes that aren't interesting to you is an ideal way to humanize queer people.

It's more that the same might happen with heterosexual friends, and you wouldn't blink an eye, so it is enlightening to note that gap.

I think the idea is, well, if you step out of your comfort zone once, you needn't repeat the process for every letter of the alphabet soup. You can extrapolate what level of normalcy activists are shooting for, meaning, not being taken aback if you see a transgender couple on tv.

Is it fair, sane, or respectful that the Catholic Church is considering the ordination of celibate gay men but not women?

How about that fictional gay white male couples + their overt sexuality were mainstreamed way before ppl could name one hot hetero full Asian couple?

one spring day in 2007, before Korean food or culture were cool, and half a decade into the Bush admin cementing David Frum's disgusting phrase "axis of evil" (formerly, hatred) into people's minds about North Korea, a 23yo Korean killed 32 people and wounded 17 at Virginia Tech.

In 2025, Korean culture is almost uncomfortably cool. It is so cool that people who are actively racist against Koreans in their politics domestic and international think they love Koreans. And I still don't think people can name a hot full Korean-American couple in popular TV.

Google search says DDK and Jinsoo Kwon count, but idk Koreans have different aesthetics than white Hollywood casting directors do + calling DDK fluent in Korean is lol. Past Lives had the same prob. Beef was a shit film + Ali isn't Korean. Have never seen or heard of West 32nd.

TSITP features a Korean mom Laurel and her two half-Korean kids Belly and Steven who live in a fictional Cape Cod, but the latter are played by nonKorean half-Asians, Kculture's an afterthought, and not one Asian male character was anyone's love interest through all the seasons.

This tendency is so noticeable that fans and antifans call Jenny Han a specialist in the odd subgenre that is half-Asian girls (whose Asianness may as well not be there) falling in love with white boys. Full Korean-American hetero couples still need humanization, but again, it

wasn't so many years ago when there weren't even so many on-paper half-Asian characters used as main characters.

Despite it being a post-Euphoria (I've not seen it) world, it just hasn't been long enough in American culture normalizing transness where some horrific crimes can be

taken in stride without the group sharing the same identity as the shooter (or apparently, the shooter's love interest) can survive unscathed.

These are minorities, and everything will be harder for ppl who exist in some overlap of nonwhite, sexual minority, undocumented, poor.

I skipped out on a ton of transition sentences, but the general thought is, if we're still in the era of it not feeling bland to see positive or "erotic" humanizing depictions of a minority group on TV, and one of them commits a high profile crime, they're vulnerable + suffering.

The post-Virginia Tech shooting American life was scary for Koreans even though Asians have the absolute lowest outgoing violent crime rate in America.

There *are* some groups that deserve more censure, like the ones w/ the highest outgoing violent crime rates in America, but,

it just seems unlikely that a tiny minority gender in the population poses danger on a daily basis.

All of this would be easier to argue if the Bureau of Justice Statistics and local police forces would stop messing with the interracial, intergender violent crime statistics.
