Ministry of Information and Broadcasting gives an undertaking before Delhi High Court to formulate final guidelines for disabled friendly accessibility features on OTT platforms.
The matter was listed before Justice Sachin Datta.
The petitioners, specially abled visually impaired persons, were aggrieved by the lack of disabled friendly accessibility features in the recent Bollywood blockbuster movies on OTT platform.
On the last date of hearing, the Court had directed the Ministry to formulate guidelines regarding the inclusion of disabled friendly accessibility features for content on OTT platforms, in accordance with the provisions of RPwD Act, 2016.
Today, Central Government Standing Counsel Sandeep Mahapatra appering for MIB told the Court that the draft guidelines have been circulated and a status report has been placed on record. Time has been given for comments on the guidelines.
Advocate Rahul Bajaj appearing for the petitioners stated that there are certain loopholes in the draft guidelines. He stated that in the consultation process they have consulted only with the industry but not any person with disability.
Court - Why dont you give a resposne to them. I will give you specific liberty to repsond to them.
The Court recorded Centre’s undertaking that the suggestion of the petitioner will be duly considered and taken into account before formulation of final guidelines.
The final guidelines shall be issued within 3 months. In case the petitioner has issues with respect to the formulation of guidelines, he shall be at liberty to take legal recourse.
The Court has disposed of the petition.

Delhi High Court permits an application filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Senior Advocate Gaurav Bhatia seeking modification of the order dated September 25 wherein the Court issued summons in his defamation suit.

Adv. Prashant Bhushan: They mentioned that they had a few meetings but did not proceed further because they couldn't obtain the records. First, they filed a status report in which they stated that the entire digitization of all defense lands had been completed. And today, this committee is apparently saying that they are still trying to search for records, etc. If digitization is complete, where is the need to search for records?
