Reminder on school weekend backpack program from the Food Pantry, with SNAP benefits expiring due to the Federal shutdown and assoc budget issues
Policy - First Readings
I recommend moving the following policies to a second reading as discussed:
IKF - Graduation Requirements
IKFE - Competency Determinations
IKF language is from MASC an addition to our policy book as we did not have one
Outline of competency requirements, successful completion and mastery of the core courses, with a civics course being added to the core for the Class of 2027
For transfers, incoming student records are useful, when available, if not MCAS can be used
Clarification questions on the list of competency requirements the bullet list is one OF the four, not all four
Can we define proficiency more explicitly?
Motion to amend as discussed, passes 7-0
This adds an appeal process to the district that DESE previously conducted. Unknown on what impact (including budget) that might mean
Motion as amended to move to second reading, passes 7-0
Superintendent’s Goals
I recommend approval of the Superintendent’s Goals as discussed.
(Document not part of the preleased agenda)
1 - Community collaboration
Got into 21 classrooms over 4 days, great exposure
Process and system focus
2 - goals from all Depts not just the educational Frontline, update to school Cmte overtime
3 - universal design, implementation across the district even with the coming together in new ways under one roof
"The year of landing a plane, what's working, what's not..."
4 - Communication across the district, distributed at levels, coordinated, work on webpage, budget messaging
No questions, "haven't had a normal year since we hired you"
Positive comments
Process and systems focus is being seen in the outcomes
Would have liked to see some more quantitative aspects to help measure the progress and success
How do we set ourselves apart from other districts? What aspects of the work being done are transformational in that manner?
Be able to tell the story of the growth or progression, i.e. increasing engagement with the community some metrics as examples of progress
Motion to approve the evaluation goals as discussed, second
Passes 7-0
October 1 report, key enrollment report date
4384 students

The point to the balance within the district
Elementary, 12 over projection
Middle, decline of 75, also below projection
FHS down from last year,
preK at 116, ended last year at over 150, it is a rolling enrollment as students age up
Decline in free/reduced lunch enrollment, looking into as it is less of requirements with the state providing lunch
Students attending elsewhere, charter declined 7; tri county up
Private fairly stable, increase of only 2 vs last year
Cheats, reports to be posted to webpage post meeting (next day or so)
Free - reduced registration provides benefits in other service areas, busing, sports, activities, etc .
Accept quarterly report part of the package
Info matters
