India’s National Highway (NH) network has grown from 91,287 km (2014) → ~1.46 lakh km (2024) — that’s a 60%+ increase in 10 years.

So, a “+2000 km” line in one state may just be upgraded stretches, not new highways.

NH projects depend on traffic density, freight corridors, strategic routes, terrain & state readiness (land acquisition, DPR approvals) not arbitrary decisions
Karnataka, for instance, has multiple 4/6-lane projects: NH48, NH275, Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway, Hubballi Bypass etc
