The Trump administration has appealed directly to the Supreme Court concerning a federal judge's ruling that the government has to fully fund SNAP food relief benefits for November despite the government shutdown.
That move was made after an appeal of the judge's ruling was denied.
In it's Supreme Court filing, the administration writing--
“Congress has failed to appropriate funds to pay for Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for this fiscal year. The Executive Branch has since exhausted the entirety of its SNAP contingency reserve, which amounted to over $5 billion. But that will be only enough to cover partial payments for the month of November."
The filing continuing to state that the situation is a crisis "that can only be solved through congressional action.”
The shutdown is now in its 38th day. It is the longest such shutdown ever.
