I really do think we are in a dangerous moment in terms of antisemitism. Yes, already dangerous. But a # of factors that are interacting & I think it will get worse. Dems aren't the only social force responsible for this, but they do need to get better on the issue as a group.
I've talked about the rise of antisemitism in the U.S. quite a bit. I'm not trying to address that rise, now, specifically, though it is a constant. I am trying to identify a new specific danger with which the "rise" interacts.
The U.S. rightwing is having a discussion centered around Nick Fuentes and antisemitism. The US leftwing (broadly construed) is not speaking up, partially because we have antisemitism problems in our own ranks. There's weakness on all fronts. Nick Fuentes will probably succeed.
People have convos re: "is left wing or right wing antisemitism worse?" Not weighing in on that. They're different and affect people in different ways. What I will say is that leftwing antisemitism running wild--unchecked, essentially--will allow rightwing antisemitism to surge.
I think we can already see this happening. There should be more of an authoritative voice against the platforming of Fuentes. That isn't happening. This means Fuentes et al. are going to get worse. The failures of gate-keeping will snowball. People need to be more responsible.
I will repeat what I have always said: we need to fix our own wounds so they do not become weaknesses. I think people who are putting their heads in the sane re: antisemitism are not only morally wrong, but strategically wrong.
