If I were a stablecoin startup, I’d focus on becoming the most semantically matched connector for stablecoin payments on ChatGPT as soon as possible.
Stablecoins are on track to move mostly behind the scenes. Fintech apps will use them but hide the crypto part. Users will just see a $ amount in an app. This makes it hard for new stablecoin startups to compete unless they have distribution. We’re already seeing this play out with incumbents like Stripe entering the market.
ChatGPT flips the script. People will soon book trips, shop and pay for things directly in chat. When someone writes 'send $10', ChatGPT will choose a connector to handle the payment. Whoever becomes that default connector could power payments for the AI economy, which is a similar opportunity to PayPal and eBay back in the day.
The distribution moat here could dwarf anything in crypto today. Wouldn’t be surprised if OpenAI eventually acquires the winner for a hefty sum.
