One of the finest members of The @Heritage board (Professor @McCormickProf) publicly resigned today as @KevinRobertsTX refuses to fully retract his defense of @TuckerCarlson. This dims hopes that a majority of the board is prepared to fulfill its three fiduciary duties.

The duty of care requires the board to remain informed, prudent, and active in oversight. The duty of loyalty obligates them to place the organization’s interests above personal allegiance. The duty of obedience demands adherence to @Heritage's mission and founding values. 2/

By these standards, board inaction amid @KevinRobertsTX ideological drift constitutes a breach of fiduciary responsibility. Roberts proudly claims he “does not take direction from members or donors.” Imagine a CEO of a public company boasting that he ignores shareholders. 3/

In the corporate world, a board that tolerated such arrogance would face swift action. @Heritage's board should hold @KevinRobertsTX to no lesser standard. 4/

Under its duty of care, the board should consider how @KevinRobertsTX' alliances and rhetoric have damaged @Heritage's reputation and alienated its donor base. 5/

Under its duty of loyalty, the board must ensure no leader uses @Heritage as a personal platform for ideological experimentation. 6/

Under its duty of obedience, the board must guarantee that @Heritage remains faithful to its founding charter — defending constitutional liberty, free markets, and a strong national defense. 7/

Donors have entrusted @Heritage with hundreds of millions of dollars, often through endowments meant to safeguard Western civilization and the U.S.–Israel alliance. Those intentions deserve respect, not betrayal. 8/

. @KevinRobertsTX is clearly steering @Heritage toward populist nationalism and away from its free-market, pro-liberty foundations. The problem with Roberts is one of both ideology and judgment. He is dismantling Heritage's reputation and harming the conservative movement. 9/

The @Heritage board has a duty to exercise its fiduciary authority and act before the organization’s moral and intellectual capital is further lost. 10/

The remaining @Heritage board members can remain passive, hoping the storm will pass. Or they can fulfill the fiduciary duties for which they were entrusted: Guard the mission, defend the integrity, and replace the leader who has forsaken both. 11/11
