The “account based in X country” smear campaign — explained in plain English. 👇🏼🧵
Note: ANYONE can fact check me on this. Give it your best shot.
A quick PSA because this new X “account based in / downloaded from” feature is being weaponized to paint real Palestinians as liars or grifters - seems like an entire psyop running with this to weaken and smear Palestinian liberation.
Here are the facts, not propaganda — just how the tech and infrastructure actually works.
If someone uses a VPN (which basically everyone under constant surveillance, doxxing threats, or political targeting should be using), their “region” on X automatically changes.
Nothing shady. That’s literally how VPNs work.
X even says this publicly.
Second: Palestinians do not control their own communications infrastructure.
Gaza has no sovereign phone networks, no independent ISPs, no separate telecom grid.
All mobile networks, towers, routing, SIM provisioning, and ISP-level access are controlled by Israeli companies.
Even the currency in Gaza is Israeli shekels(?)🤦🏻♂️
That’s occupation, not “gotcha.”
Third: Many Palestinians share account credentials with relatives or trusted friends abroad.
Why? Because bombing happens every day.
If they’re killed, someone outside Gaza can keep the account alive, keep sharing updates, keep fundraising for surviving family.
It’s grim, it's extremely sad, but it’s reality — and it protects their voice, not diminishes it.
I literally have access to certain Palestinian accounts in Gaza for the very same reason.
Fourth: App Store regions.
To download the X app (or any app), you need:
1. An Apple/Google account tied to a phone number
2. Payment verification
3. Access to a regional store
Gaza doesn’t have its own App Store region.
They rely on Israeli, Egyptian, or foreign accounts.
So “Downloaded from Israel App Store” ≠ “This person lives in Israel.”
It means - there is no Palestinian App Store because Palestinians aren’t allowed their own infrastructure.
Read that again! ^
Put all of this together, and the new X labels don’t “expose fraud.”
They expose something else entirely:
That Palestinians live under a system where every part of digital life; networks, SIM cards, currency, app stores, verification systems — is ALL controlled by the occupying power, in this case, ISRAEL. 🇮🇱
So the next time a propagandist posts a screenshot saying “Gotcha! They’re based in Mexico/Israel/etc,” just remember -
It’s not evidence that Palestinians are lying.
It’s evidence that people who know nothing about digital infrastructure are desperate to discredit them.
Reality is simple -
If someone in Gaza manages to stay online during a siege, blackout, bombing, telecom collapse, and constant surveillance — the last thing they deserve is a smear campaign over App Store metadata.
Also… let’s not forget the obvious - Palestinians have been expelled, displaced, and scattered across the world for almost 100 years.
Generations forced into exile. Entire families split across continents. A massive global diaspora that exists because of occupation, not in spite of it.
So yes, you will see Palestinians posting from Gaza, from Rafah, from Cairo, from Europe, from the Gulf, from Latin America, from literally everywhere.
It doesn’t make their advocacy less real. It doesn’t make their pain less valid. It doesn’t make their stories less true.
It’s wild that I even have to spell this out, but here we are.
“When You Leave Israel and Enter Gaza, You Are God” — an extremely disturbing look into how some IDF soldiers psychologically justify war crimes. 😳
According to Prof. Yoel Elizur, the power dynamic inside Gaza triggers a brutal mindset - “you feel like you are the law… as if… you are God.”
The article breaks soldiers into 5 psychological groups, from “Callous” (ruthless, remorseless) to “Restrained” (those who try to uphold moral conduct).
This is the woman who exposed the video of the rapist soldiers. For telling the truth, she was fired from her job and imprisoned for 10 days, while the soldiers walked free and even gave a triumphant press conference surrounded by government officials. Her life is now in clear danger, and because of her own people.
I’m organizing a small team of licensed therapists (any country) to provide sustained, trauma-informed support for Palestinians in Gaza.
Goal: a reliable, 12-month program, including one-offs, to help rebuild more than homes; mental health, dignity, the human right to happiness.
If you can commit 2–3 hrs/week, have experience with EMDR/CBT/grief/child & family work, and can practice in English or Arabic (or with interpreters), DM me. We’ll coordinate scheduling, secure platforms, translation, supervision, and burnout rotation.
Let’s build something steady and humane. 🇵🇸

If you are a licensed/experience therapist/psychiatrist from ANY location on the planet, please get in touch - my DMs are open.
Is this you hinting that you are okay with what’s happening in Gaza? You’re the ceo of @stripe, right? Since you’re in Tel Aviv, might want to pop down to the other side of the wall that holds on the Palestinian population/prisoners — then reflect on this tone deaf post you’ve made.
@patrickc @stripe Irish no less. 🤦🏻♂️
Ah, yes, hagitok1 cracked the code—I’m obviously a bot because I dared to sign up in October 2024. Clearly, nobody who’s new on this platform could possibly have thoughts, opinions, or the audacity to share them. My bad for existing, I guess.
