Northern Civic Governance Coalition Demands Defence intelligence Agency (DIA) And IGP to Investigate Kabiru Marafa Over Alleged Ties to Zamfara Bandits
The Northern Civic Governance Coalition, through its group secretary Khalid Bello Jega, expresses grave concern over the
alarming statements and emerging evidence linking Senator Kabiru Marafa to bandit groups operating in Zamfara. His recent public admissions that he knows the identities, movements, and locations of violent criminals who have terrorised communities demand immediate and thorough
investigation by the efence intelligence Agency (DIA) and IGP.
These revelations go far beyond political rhetoric. They raise serious and urgent questions about the nature of Marafa’s interactions with individuals responsible for killings, abductions, and destruction across
several local government areas. No responsible leader would speak with such certainty about the operations of criminal gangs unless there is a level of access or collaboration that must be fully probed.
The Coalition recalls a particularly troubling episode during former Governor Bello Matawalle’s administration. Kabiru Marafa reportedly pressured the government to appoint his older brother as the Emir of Yan Dota. Following this intervention, his brother, while serving as emir,
conferred a traditional title on Ado Alero, one of the most notorious bandit commanders on the wanted list at the time. Governor Matawalle acted decisively to protect the dignity of the institution and the safety of the people, suspending both the emir and the illegal title.
This courageous action prevented political interests from legitimising criminals and sending the wrong message to the people of Zamfara.
Recent developments suggest that this troubling pattern of association with criminals may be resurfacing. Reports indicate that a young man
working at Marafa’s restaurant, Yan Dota Food Palace opposite the Zamfara Government House, was recently arrested for acting as an informant for bandits and allegedly leading an operation that resulted in the kidnapping of the family of the Zamfara State Government House secretary
In addition, a bandit recently arrested in Sokoto reportedly mentioned Kabiru Marafa’s name in connection with criminal activities.
These incidents, coupled with Marafa’s own admissions of meeting and knowing the whereabouts of bandit leaders, are a direct threat to public
safety and national security. This is not a matter for political debate. It is a matter of life, death, and the rule of law.
The Northern Civic Governance Coalition, through Khalid Bello Jega, therefore calls on the Department of State Services to immediately investigate
Sen Kabiru Marafa. Every claim linking a public figure to criminal networks must be examined with the utmost seriousness. The people of Zamfara have endured enough insecurity. They deserve transparency, accountability, and leaders who protect them rather than those who endanger
