We are announcing the Lighter Infrastructure Token (LIT)! Lighter is building infrastructure for the future of finance and the native token is key to aligning incentives. In this thread, we will describe the structure of the token, broader vision, and roadmap of use cases.
The value created by all Lighter products and services will fully accrue to LIT holders. We are building in the USA and the token is issued directly from our C-Corp, which will continue to operate the protocol at cost.
Revenues from our core DEX product as well as future products and services can be tracked in real-time on chain and will be allocated between growth and buybacks depending on market conditions. We are long term builders and the goal is to maximize the long-term value created.
The token is allocated between the ecosystem (50%) and team/investors (50%). Points seasons 1 and 2 that ran in 2025 have yielded 12.5M points that will be immediately airdropped, equating to 25% of the fully diluted value.
The remaining 25% of the ecosystem allocation will be used for future points seasons and, to a lesser degree, partnerships and growth initiatives. The team and investors all have a 1-year unlock and 3-year linear vesting after. The breakdown is 26% team, 24% investor.
With alignment between the ecosystem of traders and institutions, our team, other developers, and investors including strategic partners like Robinhood and Coinbase, LIT enables us to accelerate execution of our vision.
The future of finance lies at the nexus of the traditional financial system and DeFi, and infrastructure that is efficient, secure, and verifiable will be important in both directions – adding real-world assets to DeFi and adding verifiability and composability to TradFi.
Therefore, our framework for utility of the LIT token is to consider how value is exchanged across the financial system and to build infrastructure in ways that value is accrued to efficiency, transparency, and innovation.
Holders of LIT can access financial products that can generate risk adjusted returns, improve execution, and capital efficiency.
The infrastructure of executing financial transactions and verifying their fairness and correctness will be structured in tiers based on LIT staking and increasingly decentralized.
Market data access and price validation is also a very important part of the infrastructure needed for the future of finance. Financial data providers and subscribers will use LIT as the fee token and staking will incentivize verifiable data for trading and risk management.
There is a lot to build and we wanted to share the broad use cases for LIT for our current and future partners on this long journey. We have been proud to build on top of Ethereum, the most secure L1 with by far the biggest DeFi ecosystem.
