Re the ICE shooting, there are two separate questions. The first is whether the shooting was unnecessary: should the agent have not been standing in front of the vehicle, should the agents have recognized that she was trying to drive away and not run one over, did they give her contradictory orders that left her scared and confused? 1/
Those are all legitimate questions. But none of that ultimately determines the legal question: at the time one or more officers shot the driver, was it *reasonable* to fear that she posed a danger, ie was trying to run one over? 2/
Reminds me in a way of the Zimmerman case. Zimmerman had no business following Martin once the cops told him to back off and let them handle it. He did so anyway, leading to the confrontation with Martin. Bad on Zimmerman. But on the *legal* question of self-defense, the 3/
Ben, below, is not just an X rando, he has an apparently respectable day job with something called the Taiwan Policy Center, which advocates better relations between Taiwan and the UK. So he makes a good case study of how deranged the discourse on Israel often is.
There are many plausible criticisms one can make of Netanyahu. But Netanyahu telling Americans to be "white, proud and unapologetic like me?" Completely crazy.
How do you even begin to explain depicting Netanyahu as a white supremacist? It has literally nothing to do with anything he has ever said or done.
It's basically: I'm a Western progressive. The worst thing in Western progressivism is to be a white supremacist. I think for whatever reason Netanyahu is evil. Therefore, he must be a white supremacist.
Totally deranged.
I don’t know anything about these particular loans, but section 7 loans go to minority-owned businesses, and unlike in universities where Asians faced discrimination, in government loan and contracting programs they get the same treatment as other minorities like African-Americans, and Indian Americans are considered Asian Americans. 1/
Why, you may ask, should immigrant business owners be eligible for affirmative action business programs Originally intended to bring African-Americans into the economic mainstream, and especially immigrants from the wealthiest ethnic group in the US?
That’s a very good question, and one I address to some extent in my book “classified”, but the answer comes down to that it’s mostly historical and political happenstance, and that most people have no idea that immigrants who become citizens who are classified as Asian or Hispanic or black are eligible for these programs. 3/
Now that the shock of the mass murder in Sydney has worn off "Free Palestine" types, after first claiming the massacre had nothing to do with their cause, now are posting a consistent stream of anti-Israel invective with comments along the lines of "this is the sort of thing that creates antisemitism." 1/
What they are really saying is that (a) most Jews support Israel in a general sense, if not all policies of the government; (b) Israel is incredibly evil; and (c) therefore, even if they don't quite *endorse* antisemitism and attendant violence, they find it understandable. 2/
And in any event, they find it useful... if it discourages Jews in the diaspora from supporting Israel, maybe antisemitism is on balance a good thing. And this, my friends, is why the so-called "Palestine Solidarity" movement worldwide is institutionally antisemitic. 3/
Two things that should be clarified: (1) You can be a spreader of antisemitism even if you have no personal hostility to Jews. If you spread rumors about the Rothschilds controlling the world economy, whether out of ignorance or because you know it's false but you think it will help with a political cause, you are spreading antisemitism. 1/
(2) Antisemitism isn't just some political spectrum that Jews should be expected to tolerate. As in, "why do you care if Kevin Roberts is allowing antisemitism into Heritage, so long as he also has a lot of pro-Israel and pro-Jewish stuff coming out of Heritage." Nope. 2/
This isn't like disagreeing about whether marijuana should be legalized, or what the right capital gains rate is, or to what extent free trade should be the default. Political antisemitism is noxious conspiracy theory that is, at it's root, irrational fabulism. 3/
I was reviewing the Title VI hostile environment case of Yakoby v. University of Pennsylvania, currently on appeal to the Third Circuit. The district court dismissed the case with the remarkable and totally false assertion that “At worst, Plaintiffs accuse Penn of tolerating and permitting the expression of viewpoints which differ from their own.” 1/
Reviewing the plaintiffs complaint, here are some of the allegations made by the plaintiffs that have nothing to do with "tolerating the expression of viewpoints that differ from their own." 2/
Penn received antisemitic emails threatening violence naming Penn Hillel and Lauder College House specifically, and failed to warn students about the threats. 3/
