On Tuesday, James Karbach, the Director of Legislative Policy at the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender spoke AGAINST HB26-1082 to put criminals convicted of child sex trafficking in jail for life...
What was one of his arguments? If someone solicits sex from someone they thought was 18 years old and they turn out to be a minor, the "john" get life in prison... he thinks that's a bad idea...
And then two days later, House Democrats introduce a bill to decriminalize prostitution...
Of note, here are the organizations whose lobbyists registered opposition to HB26-1082, the bill that would put child sex trafficking criminals in jail for life:
The ACLU of Colorado
Colorado Criminal Defense Bar
League of Women Voters Colorado
New Era Colorado
And here are the organizations whose lobbyists registered opposition to SB26-015, the weaker anti-child rape bill that will only slightly increase penalties:
ACLU of Colorado
Colorado Criminal Defense Bar
Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition
Colorado Freedom Fund

The widow of a Colorado man killed by an illegal immigrant trucker is outraged as he faces just a year in prison after being charged with and pleading guilty to mere minor traffic violations.
“I’m mad that I’m not going to get justice for my husband,” devastated widow Deann Miller told 9 News. “Mad because the most this man can get is a year for murdering my husband because the DA refused to charge him with more.”
“I lost the man I’ve been with since I was 17.”
Her husband, 64-year-old Scott Miller, was killed in June when a semi driven by 47-year-old Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza veered out of control and dumped a load of steel and iron rods across Highway 285.
