‼️Here are some handy words‼️

1. Kleptocracy

A kleptocracy is a form of government in which the leaders or ruling elite systematically steal a country's wealth, resources, & public funds for their own personal enrichment, rather than using them for the benefit of the citizens.

If we don’t want to live in a kleptocracy we need to retain our protected legislated human rights to ensure that we have the right the capacity & the vehicle to challenge kleptocrats who get into government
2. Disaster capitalism

The practice of exploiting major crises, wars, or economic collapses to push through controversial free-market policies or profit opportunities that would normally face strong public resistance.
3. Vulture capitalism:

A form of investing that targets struggling or bankrupt companies, buys them cheaply, strips their assets for quick profit, and often leaves workers jobless and communities worse off.
4. Crony capitalism:

A system where business success depends less on competition or innovation and more on cozy relationships with government officials, leading to favouritism, corruption, and policies that benefit connected insiders.
5. Surveillance capitalism:

An economic model where companies collect massive amounts of personal data from users (often without full awareness) and monetise it by predicting and influencing behavior, primarily for advertising profit.
6. Late-stage capitalism:

A critical term describing a phase of capitalism marked by extreme wealth inequality, corporate monopolies, environmental degradation, and absurd consumerist or social outcomes that highlight the system's contradictions.
7. Casino capitalism:

A financial system dominated by high-risk speculation and gambling-like trading in markets, rather than investment in productive, long-term economic activity.
8. Rentier capitalism:

An economy where a significant share of wealth comes from owning assets (land, intellectual property, financial instruments) and extracting rent, interest, or fees from others, rather than from creating goods or services.
9. Predatory capitalism:

Aggressive business practices that prioritise short-term profit by exploiting workers, consumers, or vulnerable communities—through tactics like predatory lending, price gouging, or union-busting.
10. Platform capitalism:

An economy increasingly controlled by digital platforms (e.g., Uber, Amazon, social media) that extract value by connecting users while taking a large cut, often avoiding traditional regulations and labour protections.

Reform UK exploits perceived crises such as the "small boats" immigration emergency, strained public services, high energy costs, and bloated government spending to justify rapid, controversial free-market reforms that would face resistance in normal times. Examples include deep cuts to public spending (framed as "digging out waste"), scrapping Net Zero mandates, freezing immigration to "save" the NHS and housing, and slashing taxes amid economic strain. This mirrors the tactic of using shocks to force through deregulation and austerity.
A version of disaster capitalism.
Success under Reform hinges on ties to wealthy insiders rather than pure competition. The party is backed by millionaire donors, and its policies like raising inheritance tax thresholds to £2m, cutting corporation taxes, and simplifying regulations disproportionately benefit the super-rich and business elites while claiming to help "ordinary people." Manifestos are described as "catnip for the fat cats," serving donor interests over broad public needs. A version of crony capitalism.
Elements of Reform policies would extract wealth through asset ownership rather than production, seen in protections for property investors, resistance to reforms curbing landlord power, and tax breaks that favor unearned income (e.g., inheritance, capital gains leniency).A version of Rentier capitalism.

‼️There are bots trolls & bad faith actors writing propagandist drivel about our protections in Scotland under the Human Rights Act‼️

Know the facts! 🧵🪡

Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) guide to the Human Rights Act 1998, which incorporates rights from the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law.

These rights apply in England Scotland & Wales.

The EHRC guides refer to “reserved” legislation ie the HRA (with equality overseen by the same body), so major changes to this regime would require Westminster action.
Article 1: Obligation to respect human rights

*Article 1 obliges public authorities to secure human rights
Article 1 requires the governments in UK and public authorities to secure the rights and freedoms set out in the European Convention on Human Rights for everyone within their jurisdiction.

This means the rights in the Convention must be respected and protected without discrimination.

Article 1 sets out the basic duty on the state to make sure all the other rights in the Convention are adhered to.
Article 2: Right to life
Article 2 protects your right to life.
Public authorities must not take your life except in very limited circumstances (e.g., lawful use of force in self-defence). They must also take steps to protect you if your life is at risk, including investigating suspicious deaths.
