Listen to the first part of the @talkSPORT interview with SEEN in Sport’s Su Wong on the welcome news that @iocmedia are protecting the female category of all @Olympics sports
The false “Michael Phelps flipper feet argument” is used again to justify males in the female category
“This is about eligibility for the female category. This is not about trans athletes”
“We don’t say we are going to police the heavyweights so they don’t get in the lightweight category, or policing adults so they don’t compete in the children’s category”
“The responsibility shouldn't be on these young girls. We've heard heartbreaking stories of girls excluding or being injured. The onus is on sports’ leaders”
“We don't need this research on male advantage because the bottom line is that women’s sport is for women” 3/
Q: “Where does this leave trans athletes?”
A: “Competing within their own sex” /4

@archerygb Email @archerygb Chair to thank him for protecting the female category but also ask to extend the policy to under 12s; there is now plenty of peer reviewed research showing male advantage increases from birth, with a boost at puberty 3/4
In January, @RYA restricted the female category in its elite events to anyone who self-declares they haven’t experienced male puberty
… warned grassroots sailing clubs not to limit inclusion without written justification
… and allowed males to choose female changing rooms 1/
“The @RYA recognise that clubs and classes organise the majority of racing in the UK”
“We would encourage club and class associations who may be considering adopting a policy which would limit inclusion to record the decision-making process and consider wider implications”. 2/
_ @RYA Changing Room Policy
“People who are trans or non-binary should be supported to use the changing facilities of their choice - their affirmed gender or private facilities”
“Just because private facilities are available, they should not be expected or forced to use it” 3/
28 experts, 3 phases of consultation to create 79 pages of strict rules & assessments for @Paralympics classification document, with no mention of female eligibility criteria or sex verification testing 3/
