@indydocumenters @mirrorindy Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. with the announcement that this will be an informational session with no votes on anything today.
@indydocumenters @mirrorindy Mary Ann Sullivan, Chairwoman, went over what a Charter School needs to do before being able to be open for students.
@indydocumenters @mirrorindy Two women from Believe Indy Accelerator Schools talked to the Board about their school model.
@indydocumenters @mirrorindy One of the women is Kimberly Neal-Bramnum, Executive Director.
@indydocumenters @mirrorindy The other was Angel Jackson-Anderson, Principal.
@indydocumenters @mirrorindy Correction: "Kimberly Neal-Bramnum" should be "Kimberly Neal-Brannum" .
@indydocumenters @mirrorindy Neal-Brannum said she believes in quality over quantity so it has been important to her to start out slowly and small to achieve the quality.
@indydocumenters @mirrorindy Neal-Brannum also said she has seen an uptick in students who are afraid to come to school so they have been working hard to confront their fears and help them overcome those fears.
@indydocumenters @mirrorindy Jackson-Anderson talked about Believe's partnership with IndyGo and how a lot of their students use public transportation to get to their campuses and they utilize bus cards.
@indydocumenters @mirrorindy Believe Schools started out in St. Louis, Missouri. They have career preparatory high schools, as well as a "middle college", which is for 17-20 year olds that have previously disengaged from school, allowing them to finish school while preparing them for post-secondary success.
@indydocumenters @mirrorindy Public Comments were next.
@indydocumenters @mirrorindy Meeting adjourned at 6:59 p.m. This concludes the Indianapolis Charter School Board meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for May 6th. For more meeting coverage, check out .documenters.org
