The Satyajit Ray of Indian Politics — A First-Hand Account of Bengal’s Redemption 🧵

To the armchair critics sitting hundreds of kilometers away: your "political analysis" of Bengal is noise. I was born and raised in the heart of Kolkata. I didn't read about Bengal in a textbook; I breathed its dust, felt its fear, and watched its slow decay. This is for you.

You see videos of celebrations today and call it "unrest." You don’t understand. This is the sound of a glass ceiling shattering after 50 years of suffocation. This is the primal scream of a people who have finally broken their chains. ⛓️🔥
Let’s talk about the Satyajit Ray of Bengal Politics. In 1992, the Academy gave Ray an Honorary Oscar with a citation that shook the world:

"In recognition of his rare mastery of the art of motion pictures, and of his profound humanitarian outlook..."

Today, the citation for Narendra Modi in the hearts of Bengalis is identical. He has shown a "rare mastery" over the art of governance and a "profound humanitarian outlook" for a state that was left to rot. He is the director of our state's rebirth.
For those who didn't grow up there, let me tell you what "normal" was. I grew up in Tollygunge. While the world talked about the "Cultural Capital," we lived in a downtown gang war zone. You wouldn't know what a PETO is. A Peto is a crude, handmade bomb—wrapped in jute string, packed with shrapnel and gunpowder. In Bengal, these weren't just for terrorists; they were used in local area fights. You’d be walking to buy milk and hear a deafening thud—that was just the "Para" boys settling a score.
We had the first Metro in India. A marvel! But then, time stopped. For decades, while Delhi and Chennai built webs of steel and glass, our progress froze. We became a museum. The pioneers of the 80s became the laggards of the 2000s, "suffering with dignity."

The stagnation was systemic. I remember our broken buses and the "socialist" kindness of conductors. One once shouted: "Jaara ticket katen ni, porer stop-e neme jaan, shamne checking achhe!" (Those who haven't bought tickets, get down now, there's a checker ahead!) Institutionalized dishonesty was our "culture."
Our universities, once the envy of the world, became factories for intellectually hollow goondas. We were taught to mock the "crass commercialism" of Bombay while our roofs leaked and our youth spent their days marinating in Charms cigarette smoke and "Adda."
10/22 The "Change" from Dada to Didi was the ultimate betrayal. She promised "Ma, Mati, Manush" but delivered a nexus of goondas like Jahangir Khan. She turned the "Bhadrolok" (the gentle folk) into silent spectators of their own humiliation.

She allowed infiltration that turned the outskirts of Bengal into a landscape that looked more like Afghanistan than Sonar Bangla. Aadhar cards were handed out like bus tickets to build a vote bank, while the original residents were choked.
Then came the horrors—the R.G. Kar incident, the local extortions. During Durga Pujo, if your "Chanda" (donation) wasn't enough, you were threatened, mocked, or whacked. It wasn't faith; it was a state-sponsored racket.

Singur was the suicide of our industry. Thousands of jobs were murdered in the name of the "poor," while the poor were left with nothing but a party flag and a promise of a "Bandh." Our "uncles" were burning trams over a 5-paise hike, burning our future with it.
But look at X today. The Global Para Adda is buzzing! Industrialists who haven't looked at Bengal in 30 years are tweeting with pure joy. The "warehouse of India" is finally reopening its shutters. The "Adda" is finally about "FOR A CHANGE"—for good. 🏭📈

When you see the people breaking into offices today, don't call it goondaism. It is the release of 45 years of built-up anger. It is the end of the "Abhodrotami" (un-gentlemanly conduct) that was forced down our throats.

I studied by the lantern because of "load-shedding." Today, I see a future of 24/7 power and 24/7 dignity. PM Modi saw the "Pather Panchali" (Song of the little road) of our suffering and decided the script had to change.

My brother isn’t alive to see this. He didn't get to see a Bengal that moves beyond the Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal rivalry to talk about GDP and global exports. I weep because he, and my father, deserved this air of liberty.

In Bangla, when your eyes turn red and moist with infection, we call it "Joy Bangla." Today, my eyes have turned from the Red of the Left, to the Green of the TMC, and finally to the ORANGE of the future. This is the true Joy Bangla. 🧡
Thank you, Modi Ji. You are the director we needed. You gave a voice to the Bhadrolok who had been silenced. You have made the departed souls of my family find peace.

Thank you, Modi Ji. You are the director we needed. You gave a voice to the Bhadrolok who had been silenced. You have made the departed souls of my family find peace.

"Aagami Bochor Abar Ashbey" was our prayer. "Ebar Eshe Geche" (He has arrived now) is our reality.
Bengal is no longer the backbencher. We are the soul of the nation again. Joi Bangla! Jai Shri Ram! Vande Mataram! 🇮🇳 🚩
