I used to spend 4+ hours a week running my newsletter

now it's just a few minutes

I've written my newsletter for two years but everything changed six weeks ago with the @beehiiv MCP

here are the 5 workflows that got me there 🧵 Image
1/ newsletter editor

claude analyzed every newsletter I've ever sent and built a style guide based on my voice

now I submit a rough draft → it fact-checks every claim, fixes flow and grammar, and returns a publish-ready version

everyone can have their own dedicated editor Image
2/ subject line generator

claude discovered clear patterns and correlations between subject lines and open rates

ex: abstract nouns like “trajectory” crush (46.9%)
ex: using “beehiiv” hurts open rates

it built a framework called CREAM. now every subject line is backed by data Image
3/ ad copywriter

claude found certain framing that increased clicks, and other phrases that caused lower open rates (i.e. too promotional)

now it rewrites ad copy in my voice and runs it through a deliverability filter

result: higher open rates, better ads, happier sponsors Image
4/ ad performance report

each week I owe sponsors a performance report. it used to take 20 minutes clicking through dashboards

now → every Tuesday claude automatically pulls data from beehiiv and builds a PDF with the advertiser’s logo and BDE aesthetic

zero input from me Image
5/ advertiser lead gen

cold outreach sucks. I built an AI tool that:

> segments new subscribers
> identifies the companies they work for
> scores them against my ideal advertiser profile
> sends me qualified leads in Slack every morning

warm leads. no effort. every single day Image

my newsletter has 133k subs, makes a half million $$ a year, and takes me 5 hours per week

the #1 question I get is “how do I grow my newsletter?”

so I wanted to put all my usual answers & advice in one place

hope this helps someone: Image
1. stop looking for a silver bullet

there is no 1 thing that will explode your newsletter

you have to test and be consistent with 25 small things that compound

e.g. I send a teaser on X/LI before the newsletter goes out and a snippet after I publish
2. find a recommendation pod

when someone subscribes to your newsletter, you can recommend 4 others

team up with 4 operators in your space who recommend you back so every new sub they get sees your newsletter

huge ROI on your time finding the right newsletters to recommend

beehiiv just crossed $2M MRR

but most founders are still stuck trying to generate their first $100K

to celebrate the milestone I’m going to try something new…

I’m sharing the exact playbook we used in the early days (10 simple tactics)

hope this helps someone: Image
1. build a waitlist

our first hundred customers came from a simple tweet (I’ll share it in the video)

my goal was two-fold:

• establish credibility
• connect with potential users
2. ship one marketable feature every week

this created FOMO and made the product feel alive

it also built the narrative that we could (and would) build anything to serve our users

we perfected product drops to maximize hype

substack just rug pulled all of their customers

the creator economy’s promise is taking power from institutions and giving it to individuals

but substack has now become the institution

they're extracting value from creators and trying to lock them into their platform for good Image
last week they announced that all writers are required to offer Apple's in-app purchase (IAP) payment option

that does two things

1) increases the cost to readers by 30%
2) locks writers into the platform long-term
this heavy-handed decision was made unilaterally, without giving writers the ability to opt out

users responded pretty much exactly how you would have expected in the comment section of the announcement Image

we analyzed over 15 BILLION emails so you don't have to

here are my top 5 takeaways from the @beehiiv 2025 state of newsletters report 👇 Image
🕓 timing is everything

· peak engagement occurs in the mornings
· best open rates occur tuesday - thursday
· lowest open rates on saturdays Image
💸 show me the money

· $3.7M+ earned from beehiiv Ad Network
· $2M+ earned from beehiiv Boosts
· $8.6M+ earned from paid subscriptions

**beehiiv doesn't take a cut of your subscription revenue like other platforms 😏 Image

.@beehiiv is going to smash through $10k MRR in less than 6 months (growing ~72% MoM)

and we haven’t spent a dollar on acquisition

here’s how we made it happen:
credibility

I was the 2nd employee at Morning Brew and my cofounders were also early employees

collectively we built the infrastructure and tools that helped scale MB into the millions of subs

we know what data, tech, and functionality to prioritize
product led growth

with our experience in the newsletter space, our roadmap has prioritized features that drive the highest impact to users

striking the balance of feature parity + totally unique features + “flashy” things that we know will attract users Image

I've seen thousands of newsletters sent via @beehiiv

some look incredible, some don't

here are 14 things you can do to make your newsletter look better👇🏽🧵
2/ use custom images for headers (especially if you have recurring sections)

looks a lot better than a standard plain-text header

h/t @LocalOptimists @PiqueAction TheSocialLife
3/ introduce a background-color

everyone's inbox is filled with emails with white backgrounds. if you can find a background color that compliments your newsletter, it could work wonders
