Islam says that masturbation steals something money can never buy back.
Most people never make the connection. You pray. You work. You make du’a.
But sometimes it feels like something is holding you back. In private, there may be a habit you think is harmless: Masturbation.
You tell yourself:
It’s only affecting me.
It’s private.
It’s not hurting anyone.
I’ll stop when I’m ready.
That’s what Shaytan wants you to believe.
But every sin leaves a trace on the heart.
And what affects the heart eventually affects everything else.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When a servant commits a sin, a black spot appears on his heart.” (Tirmidhi)
Invisible. But real.
And unlike money, once your heart becomes stained, no amount of wealth can buy back the peace, clarity, and closeness to Allah that sin takes away.
Over time, you may notice the effects:
• Salah feels empty.
• Du’as feel distant.
• Motivation fades quickly.
• Your heart feels heavy.
You look for answers everywhere.
But external solutions cannot fix an internal problem.
Then comes the realization:
The biggest obstacle may not be bad luck.
It may not be other people.
It may not be a lack of opportunities.
It may not be your circumstances.
It may be the sins you keep returning to.
As Allah says:
“Whatever misfortune befalls you is because of what your own hands have earned…” (Qur’an 42:30)
One day, you sit alone.
You admit your weakness.
You turn back to Allah.
You make sincere tawbah.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“All the children of Adam sin, and the best of sinners are those who repent.” (Tirmidhi)
You are not hopeless.
You are not beyond mercy.
You just need to return.
So start making changes:
• Make wudhu when temptation comes
• Fast as much as you can
• Keep your phone out of your bedroom at night
• Replace empty scrolling with Qur’an and dhikr
Not perfection.
Direction.
With time, your Salah feels different.
Your heart feels lighter.
And you begin to understand:
Masturbation isn’t just a private sin.
It affects the heart.
And tawbah isn’t just forgiveness.
It’s a return to Allah.
Start today.
Make sincere tawbah.
Identify your triggers.
Cut off access before temptation arrives.
And ask Allah for strength.
Because if a sin steals your connection with Allah, no amount of money can buy it back.
Don’t let one habit stand between you and the closeness to Allah that you’re seeking.
